This might just be the ugliest CD player I’ve ever seen. The new McIntosh MCD85

Some comments on FB. LOL. Guess I’m not alone.

This one is my favorite: “Reminds me of my little sisters easy bake oven.”

To me, they also win the first prize in the turntable category :shocking:

Amen, I'm not sure what's in the drinking water in Binghamton these days but Mac has two ugly ducklings with both their TT and CD/SACD players. They'd be best to stick to amps and pre-amps

I realize its not the case but, it is as though they had old parts left over and are trying to use them up.
CD players usually seem to be stream lined and kind of sexy. This one is like my great aunt Thelma.

It would have looked fantastic in the movie METROPOLIS...
About a hundred years ago...:skeptical:

McIntosh clearly values some of the design elements in some of their classic gear. We all certainly understand the function of the MC75 amp chassis. But, that look, with a box grafted to the top is truly ugly. Doubt it will sell well.

Not that I would get one, but I did enjoy the look of the turntable in the TV shoe “Elementary”. It looked cool tucked into a bookshelf near matching McIntosh gear.

no amount of lipstick on that pig will make it look good !

Given where it falls price wise I can't see anyone(of sound mind) buying it over the Marantz K1 Ruby

if you want top-shelf aesthetics in a spinner you have to come off the hip a bit more: gryphon ethos

A Fugly CD Player to go with their Fugly MC 830 and Fugly C 8. Seriously this stuff is not aimed at anyone on this forum. Who will buy it?

Headed for the Island of Misfit Toys.

Tidal recently became inspired for design ideas for their speakers from Bugatti.

Perhaps McIntosh received their industrial design inspiration for the MCD85 from the Fiat Multipla.

They obviously designed this to go along with the new line of gear that started with the MA252 and MA352. I really don't like this player but honestly I do like the design of these integrated amps and the C8. And no I have not been drinking the water in Binghamton :D. I have not been home in a couple of years :)....

Since they continue to add more models to this design layout it must be popular for them. A company does not stay around and prosper for over 70 years without giving their customers what they want.... :dunno:
