There has been some absolutely gorgeous equipment seen over the years - some sound great, some did not, and much of it was never heard. what would your dream system consist of (based on LOOKS only).Imagine that it sounded as wonderful as it looked. betting lots of blue light specials (mcintosh). Used to love the old tandberg and luxman lines, perhaps early vac- just too many choices *L*

Probably can get an idea of a persons age by what they choose- even down to tubes or ss. It is tough to decide- that is why i did not say, have often thought about it though

This old Sony table radio sounds as good as it does. I use to own one.

My "dream system" would probably consist of equipment i lusted over growing up, not what is out there today- just like cars, probably prefer them from an earlier time. That is why i would determine by looks only (and gather up all that beautiful equipment of days gone by)

love the amps and (of course) the speakers, cables too, but the rest is too 21st century for my tastes- would even consider an old luxman pd 284 (don't really remember the models any more) or thorens td 125, luxman or tandberg tuner

modern day speakers (if you appreciate fine wood) almost has to default to sonus faber- unless more restraint is desired - large tannoy, modern day ,always had a soft spot for the wood cabinet dynaudios- contour (?)

Hmm, well, just off-hand my system would have a vintage look from gear I loved looking at but could never afford from back in the day and there would have to be meters and something (perhaps and EQ) with a spectrum analyzer display. The speakers would be something more modern though with a nice wood finish like rosewood or something. My Paradigms would do nicely. Oh, the turntable would be the one I saw in a Columbo episode titled "Bye Bye Birdie".
I might want 2 systems so the other could be tube-based and have a Steam-punk look to it. One of those Mcintosh tube amps that Joe and Mike have (the one I think reminds me of a V-8 engine) would have to be included, oh and the lighting would be blue instead of green (or maybe two of them if they are mono blocks).

Ok, what is that thing with the big meter in the middle. That looks cool Mike!
Are you sure that other thing is a Turntable and not some kind of transwarp drive from the starship Enterprise? LOL! I'm not so sure I'd personally want something like that, I'd end up sitting and staring at it all day without actually using it. Then after a time I'd get the courage and end up finding a way to make it light up too.

hard to miss,as his name is on it- we also have a supermarket in this area by the name of D'agostinos . that pre-amp looks like something from either 20,000 leagues under the sea, or star trek- the next generation

Tough to beat JRDG gear on sheer looks.

Vac Phi Beta is pretty awesome, tube-wise, with the lit up glass. Viva Solista gives the Vac a good run on pure aesthetics.

For a more understated look, Shindo gear is fantastic in person.

Not hard to miss with my eyesight. I have to read the large print books these days and that's with strong glasses. Sucks? You bet it does!

This for starters

Ok Brian, now that's just pure audio porn there!:D Wow, I just noticed...look at the top of the fins, they spell Pathos. That's a cool touch! Damn! I want one now and I don't even know what tube sounds like! That one and the Mcintosh one.
