For Led Zeppelin fans

Mike, when it was announced, I placed preorders for all the remastered work...the box set thingy. I have my dads original lps that are mint first editions and now these. Pretty kewl.

Love jimmy page. Monsters of Rock. Led Zeppelin never gets old

The thing is most of their best is on live albums like how the West was won, the double DVD, the page and plant DVD, and bootlegs like listen to this Eddie.

So those are the ones I am waiting for him to remaster. Guess he will take another 5 years.

The best led zeppelin playback I have heard is from the japanese shm disks. I like it even better than the recent remasters. There is something about the shm format that makes the music sound more "real".

Their is something about the SHM version of Steely Dan Asia that makes it sound like crap. I don't know about the rest of the SHM reissues.

+1 I have several SHM discs and they mostly dogs, sonically speaking.

A fellow audiophile with a really nice system invited me over to his house to hear his system. He starts bragging about SHM discs (which I had never heard of) and tells me he wants me to hear his SHM version of Steely Dan Asia. He proudly inserts the disc and hits play and I was like "crap," that sounds horrible. So I ask him if he happens to have Asia on LP because he does have a modest table. Sure enough, he pulls out an old copy of Asia and I gave it a spin for him on his VPI 16.5 after I cleaned up the pickup arm pad with a new toothbrush he fetched at my request. The difference between hearing the LP and the SHM disc were anything but subtle. My host was amazed at how good his old copy of Asia sounded and we never discussed how good SHM CDs were again for the rest of the day.

this reminds of me of some threads on Steve Hoffman forums: one guy likes a mofi remaster, one guy hates it, one guy prefers an old dcc, one guy thinks his original german pressed cd with a particular symbol is the bomb....it's all personal in the end...

but getting back on topic, if you are a hard core Zeppelin fan, YOU WILL BE REMISS if you don't listen to the shm pressings. just be careful: they were manufactured in limited quanitities, and there are a lot of chinese fakes around.

Mark,

Spell check might've "fixed" it for you, but the album's called "Aja"...

@groovy, that's the holy grail right there!! 45rpm AAA LedZep!!! Can't get any closer than that. I have kicked myself for not jumping when they were available for a short time, $750 seemed outrageous at the time.
