OK Paul, you have some MAJOR TBD's! What are you thinking for analog? Phono preamp? What about digital?

Hey Mike thanks for your interest. I am moving at a snails pace as you can see. (I live on my old Rotel, B&W system while I build my new one.) I find the journey a great deal of fun and am not compelled to hurry. Vinyl is my first focus. I want tubes feeding my Soulution stuff.

I have been waiting for Myles to get the newest Doshi Phono in to get his take. Also on my list are the Allnic H3000, Lamm LP2.1, and maybe the Kondo GE-1 with a Kondo SUT.

TT front runner is probably the AMG, but I have more work to do there.

Sounds good Paul. You're definitely doing your homework.

So Paul, all that great equipment is just sitting in your home, not connected, waiting for cables?

If so, wow, you have the patience of a saint! I don't think I could have all that gear in my house without hooking it up as soon as I got it! Zip wire or otherwise!

I hope to be demoing the H3000 very soon myself.

He has no sources to listen to.

There has to be a spare CD player in the house, no? I'll send him one of my old Sony's just sitting in storage!

Who knows what Paul has laying around. He could drag something out and start breaking in his electronics and speakers.

I just loaned Allen a preamp with a great phonostage so he could spin his vinyl. :)

I can lend Paul my Oppo 95, but he will have to apply for a Mike's Audio Library card.

I have run the raidhos and 501's in with crap power and wires with an Opus just for jollies but they have been back in boxes for a few months while I work on my room. (I absolutely, positively loved the combo, although I know Mep can explain this oddity as a function of my cognitive dissonance, insecurity, testosterone level, childhood trauma and general intellectual dishonesty.)

I am taking my daughters old rec room as my new listening room and redoing a room for her. Just got my Torus a couple of weeks ago and it won't be in until after the holidays. Then I will start playing more.

Also, I failed to mention the more I look at gear the more I want to spend the slower I go.

You sure are patient Paul. I thought Nick (veindoc) was the champion of patience, but I think you have him beat. I would be chomping at the bit with those 501's/725 sitting there.

And it's not just any pre/phono, it's a gorgeous looking and sounding Vac!

Thanks again, Mike!!:woot:

I was born with one nerve and no patience. That's why I get pissed off when I've been sitting on the runway for 3 hours waiting to take off and the pilot keeps coming on and thanking me for patience I don't really have.

Ok fine, if you really want to get in my knickers, I also bought some of these in the third quarter to run some carbon fiber polymer for a German Luxury Auto company I sell to.

They ain't cheap and I had to dig into my piggy bank. I know I need to get my priorities straight.

VERY cool. I applaud your patience and not making any shortcuts in your decision making.

Paul,

After our recent discussion I am pretty confident the power is well designed and what I can see in your signature the gear and accessories are top notch. I know since I recently worked on my power supply that this is so valuable for the sound quality!

Now since this is about your TBD's let me give you my take on the digital. This is what I would chase if I would be at your point.
1 The Auralic Aries streaming bridge
43014aries2.jpg

This device has the all the finest ingredients to make it one of the best, or probably the best renderer on the market. Streams all formats including double rate DSD and with double Femto clocks, dual-band wireless and gigabit ethernet connection you are prepared for the future. A very important aspect is that it supports the so called 'open home' UPnP AV standard like Linn and Lumin do. So it is fully compatible with a lot of control software including the great Lumin app and Linn Kinsky and with this standard you can use multiple control points at the same time and they don't have to be connected all the time like with most other devices.

2 The Lampizator Big 7 tube DAC
_N0P6345.jpg

I think that a tube DAC is the best way to create an analogue but full-range sound out of digital. I first thought of the Nagra DAC but then I thought that Norman has the Lampi as the flagship of his sound and he is for more than a year so convinced that you cannot go wrong here. It does support the DSD.

Good luck with filling in the TBD's

Hans

Ahhhh, to DSD or not to DSD that is the question. Wisnon has had me focussed on the Lamp 7 for a while, but I am all about vinyl for now. Thanks for the insights though.
