The outline you speak of might be the silver outside of the HDMI plug?
Have you tried a cable?
HDMI goes in one way and an HDMI cable can be confused with a USB A cable.
So, try it both ways and double check it is not a USB A.

I tried it but the door won't push open. What purpose does that screw serve?

I'm a little confused here. Can you take a picture and post it?
I assume the 20 thousands set back you referenced to is outer case to silver frame of HDMI plug.
