Robert Plant and Allison Krauss's first duet album, Raising Sand was excellent. I had heard they were recording a second one... Well it is coming in November!!!

Robert Plant, not Planet :-)

And yes Raising Sand was very good but T Bone Burnett’s production severely over cooked the bass on that album, as is common for him. I’d love to hear most of those songs without the muddy bass, just trim off the fat. I listened to a few songs on an exceptional system where I know the bass wouldn’t be exacerbated by the room and still it is the mastering that needs improved.

I like my T Bones on the grill and not in the recording studio.

I watched this the other day, an interesting interview by Charlie Rose...I didn't find Raising Sand bass-heavy (vinyl), ill re-listen.

It's been years since I played the LP and several iterations of gear so I will be interested in your opinion. T-Bone had a hand in the worst Mellencamp LP I have ever heard.

Playing the 24/96 download on my system the bass is a bit "muddy" and prominent but not overly so; however, there is noticeable (and needless) dynamic compression.

How much "muddy" is acceptable?

Good question. I was addressing what I thought Bob was mostly objecting to, the perceived prominence of bass, which I did not find objectionable. Perhaps neither of us were expressing ourselves clearly; I would agree that there is a "problem" with the bass, it could definitely have been more realistically and enjoyably presented on this recording.

If the volume is kept “reasonable” the muddy bass is tolerable. But if you crank it (and several cuts on that album beg to be heard loud) the muddy bass just drowns out so much music. I’ll venture to say it will light up room nodes in all bet the very best listening rooms. T. Bone is a bit heavy handed on the bass sliders on the mastering board. Maybe his studio monitors are lacking?

I heard the Raising Sand tour and for me the bass was pretty much identical on the cd....not muddy at all....most likely something in your room, setup or gear...
Actually the live show and cd were very close in all respects

For me, different rooms, different but similar equipment — same issue with the bass. When I had my room acoustically redone the bass improved but still overcooked (imo). Even in an amazing room with amazing kit — same issue though somewhat less pronounced. Just goes to show how we all hear things a bit differently.

I will, however, eagerly await the new album. I really liked Raising Sand.

I really like Raising Sand. I never thought the bass was "over cooked" or "muddy" in any way. I suppose I should listen again 😊. I am really looking forward to these two's second album together! I do not have the vinyl version (although the local record store has ordered it for me). Therefore I have only listened to the 96 Khz download version.

Can you explain what you mean when you say the live show and CD were very close in all respects?

Sure
In relation to where everyone is/was on stage the live show and cd are the same.
