Looks like Lukasz is borrowing a page from Papa (Nelson Pass) ...
Just saw these pictures on Facebook.

Wow! I love the room he's in. Looks cool. I bet the speakers are nice too. Looks like OB is the new hot trend.

What's the benefit/ advantage of open baffle, Joe?

Yes, and I feel there's a more open sound, almost electrostatic quality. My Alon and Nola speakers were dipole/open baffle in the treble and mid-range and they were wonderful.

Lack of or absence of box colorations ... depending on implementation.

These are very good speakers for the money. They are not SOTA but they are open, room filling, musical, big sound, and since he is shipping them directly, they are cheap, and made for the audiophile who wants to have a budget system that's musical - lampi directly into power amp driving these easy speakers that also work in small rooms. He has focused on keeping costs low, by having a design without a baffle, and almost no WAF - WAF veneers are optional and would cost more I guess. There is no distribution cost, hifi show cost, shipping around by UPS to dealers etc cost. I will write about them shortly, busy right now.

Not new Joe , quite a few have been around for at least the last 35 yrs I'm aware off and agree , that is a nice looking room ..

Maybe the no finish for 5K is new ... :)

Finite enclosures causes dynamic compression and coloration , yes even alloy ones vs Open baffle. With a cabinet the internal box reflections exit thru the cone diaphragm and while some of it can be mitigated with damping material and careful control of internal reflections there is just no getting away from it thru the cones . With an open baffle the drivers are really like a dipole speaker with no box coloration and all rear reflections take on room reflections similar to ESL's etc , there is no fixed box Dimn to cause dynamic compression so you end up with a very open fast speaker system.

The speaker featured is a quasi dipole , as the tweeter is forward firing only and the woofer setup is not typcal open baffle but finite baffle with the added enclosure to extend the cutoff frequency , but since there is no internal pressure as similar to sealed or vented cabinets they tend to have faster rise times.

Regards

The tweeter and midrange are OB and bass is not, it's an 18 inch woofer

It just seems that everywhere I turn these days, that's all I see is multiple versions and a handful of companies making all kinds of OB speakers. I am happy to see it.

the tweeter is a dipole. Is as dipole as it gets but you have to read carefully. Fikus electric dot com

OB and dipole.

Note the name (P17).

Lukasz back in his DIY days used to number his speaker projects. It's still online at his old DIY site.

It seems that in Europe, you can buy it as kit or fully assembled. I think the huge OB woofer will allow for high SPL, but the diople RAAL tweeter is the real sweetspot in the design. Reasonable pricing too.

My Heil Kithara speaker is FULLY OB dipole from 650hz up! (see picture of the driver as my Avatar)

Bass reflex 10 inch woofer with cone plug (in the floor plate) for tuning upfiring bass/MF woofer.

I agree with you about OB.
