Feel like tubes tonight

After a couple long days at work (yes Saturday also), splitting head ache, etc., I felt like listening to some mellow tubes tonight. So I hooked the ARC up. Love the First Watt, but also love the Audio Research... nice change of pace... airy and open while not quite as precise as the Class A...

Ok, so I lasted about an hour. The ARC is such a great sounding amp, but dam.... there is something about the First Watt... such a solid and stable sound stage... natural sounding instruments... can't think of the right word, but the natural reverb in a grand piano as an example.... I really like my ARC... but the FW is sitting there saying play me, play me... I'm sorry, but I have never heard a better sounding amp... my poor VT-50 wants so much to be played ....

Sixteen tubes running tonight. ARC Ref 10 preamp and Vandersteen M7-HPA mono amps. I'll soon have the option to run 4, 16 or 22 tubes in my system. Just hybrid amps, plus tube preamp, plus tube source. I'll be able to vary the system's organicness, conserve tube life and reduce room heat in July and August. Life is good. :celebrate008_2:

Very nice indeed! And Joe, yes it is great having options. I am sure down the road I will use the ARC more, but for now I am smitten with the FW .
