Hello All ,

im looking to see if anyone can suggest a brand of solid state amplifier that is similar to Spectral. In terms of transparency , speed and neutrality.

I like Spectral but , have doubts about the MIT cables. Is there another brand with a similar sound and or design philosophy ? without having to use networked cables.

Constellation ? Soulution ?

Thanks

What are you planning to use them to drive , best to match amp to load ....

I'd have to say their respective matching pre amplifiers. I wouldn't mix and match brands etc... Although I was thinking about using a DAC with volume control going straight into the amplifier. But, I don't think I want to go that route.

I was mostly addressing speaker load , Pre-amp matching and cables is also something to look into , mostly a tonal/Timbre issue when thats off ....

Oh, in that regard. My speakers are YG Carmel 2.

mdp632,
I also own YG speakers. I'm on my third pair. I have changed my system over to all AudioNet electronics. By far the best I have heard with YG speakers. Any of the amps they offer will be more than enough power and sound great with your speakers. They are fast, detailed, and very musical. Lots of texture and image depth. They also never get hot when left on all the time. Not sure of your location but Bill Parish at GTT audio in NJ has the entire YG line setup in rooms with AudioNet gear. He also carries Soulution.

Soulution. It's amazing. Constellation is not "fast". Maybe new boulder 2000 series but I haven't heard it-just the old stuff.

Berning quadrature...they are as fast, clean, great bass, and with a valve harmonic but without the noise

You could also take a look at CH Precision A1 or M1.

I've not heard Spectral but a fast neutral Class D would be Merrill Audio. He also has preamps.

I also use Mark Levinson for the reason it's fast while being musically satisfying. A couple preamps, one with DAC.

I haven't heard Krell in a long time but they used to have the fastest transients I've experienced personally, yet, I didn't find them as engaging as Levinson.

Some of the amps mentioned I haven't heard like AudioNet, Tech Brain or Solution.

The two that spring to mind are Soulution and Audionet. CH Precision may be worth a try as well.

I had a Spectral setup at one point. 360's and the matching 30 preamp (if I remember correctly). Driving Magico Q5's. I liked the gear very much. I always questioned the mandatory use of MIT cables. Very limiting. Certainly worth a listen though…

The Bruno Putzey designed Hypex NCores are the best SOTA Class D on the market today IMO.
Rowland, Merrill, Nord, et al
An "amplifier", vs a special effects processor...if that is one's goal. Transparent and very powerful into any reasonable load.

Just had the opportunity to hear the Constellation Centaur II in my system and agree with the "not fast". I had a hard time figuring out why I was having trouble connecting to it emotionally. The Constellation definitely has more bass and is warmer than my VAC 200iQ. But I understood why once I put the VAC back in the system. The VAC was much faster and propulsive. Among other things, the Centaur II was significantly slower and that hindered my emotional connection.

Caveat: that was using my VAC Master preamp, NOT a Constellation preamp. That might make a difference?
