i was just reading about speaker placement on the klipsch website.
it mentions for best bass response to put your speakers in the corners of your room. it doesnt say but im guessing by the illustration about 2ft off the front wall and 2 ft off each side wall. my present speakers are(front ported) about 4-5ft off the front wall and one is 2ft off the right wall and the left is 3ft off the side wall. so its like they are out on an island. and my left speaker has no corner behind it. there is a hallway there.
so they mention building a false corner. basically an L-shaped 4ft high wall to put around the speakers.made of 2x4 and ply. i could easily do this since i have every saw and nail gun known to man here, it wouldnt take me long. but before i do, i just wanted to know if anyone else has attempted this, or thought about it and if it was worth the effort?? oh and if anyone thinks im just wasting my time.lol.
what i was thinking is the left side making the L-shape and the right side just making a single straight piece with some stability feet to stand up on its own that comes out to cover behind the one speaker since its "off the side wall" placement is good. id build them out of 2x3's and sheetrock them with just a thin 1/4" rock, and maybe insulate them as well. so there is no bouncing sound in there because of the thin sheetrock. if it works then i could spackle and paint to match.
sooo think this is going overboard?? or should i just play with my plcement a little first. these speakers im bringing in are big, and might mean a total re design of the way i set things up.
any thoughts????

Steve...clearly these speakers are designed to be placed in the corner for bass reinforcement, so I would follow the manufacturer's instructions. Before you do the build out though, why don't you see what they sound like in your room as is with the suggested placement. And if you are getting uneven bass response or it's generally sounding a bit thin, then maybe you can place a makeshift stack of 2x3s nailed together to get a 4 ft high structure and cover it with a blanket and just place it on the open side to create a corner and see if that makes a difference for the better and if it does, then you can do the full shebang as you describe above. I am sure you were already thinking of doing all this so nothing I said is insightful but just stating the obvious of how to walk through the process. My guess is very few people if any will have actually gone through this exercise on AS as it is fairly unique to these Klipsch speakers perhaps and your specific room set-up. Good luck.

hi cyril, i was just brainstorming on how to make these out of things in my house to see if its beneficial before i actually buy lumber . so pretty much exactly what your saying as well.
i sure have enough large cardboard boxes and blankets around. you are right in getting these big ass speakers in here and messing around with them first. they are the cornwall3 from joe. a nice inexpensive way to up my efficiency for my 300b's. thanks!!

Steve - "best bass performance" for Klipsch is very different from other speakers. Klipsch speakers were never known as big and boomy, so corner placement helped eek out that last bit of bass from a speaker that goes down to 33hz (instead of 20hz). For Joe's Klipsch speakers you're going to try, I would put them in the corners as the website suggests and perhaps even try the false corners.

thanks im going to get them tuesday and give it a try. it was just dumb luck that the veneres were made to pretty much put anywhere, so now i have to do some rethinking of the room.
i thought the false corner idea to be pretty good.

Am I reading correctly Petro? You don't have corners in your room?
I only have one corner and two walls opposite each other in my room, that's it. It's like living in an unfinished room, but it isn't my place.

no sir, the outlets on that wall are awful and full of interference. the outlet i use now is only for a bedroom that houses all my boxes and nothing is ever plugged in there and the outlet i use now is the first in the line and jumps to that bedroom ,i pulled the jumper wires off to make it dedicated when i upgraded the outlet. so id need either a 15ft long pc to my strip, and move everything or a pair of 15ft long interconnects and my amps only do rca's and everyone says that is a no no , running long rcas. so only other option is to crawl under my house and run a new line for the long wall, and its tight under there and im a bit claustrophobic. and the corners are 22ft wide on that wall. im still thinking on it though.

i have one corner but the other side is a hallway to my other bedrooms. and i like to be able to walk behind my rack and mess with stuff so its off the wall about 20 inches, and my speakers are way out in front so my gear doesnt obstruct the soudstage.

Or a Power conditioner/surge protector might help? I'm thinking something like a Panamax unit or similar.

Sounds like moving everything would be a major pain in the neck. Not to mention all the electrical work beforehand. My question doesn't pertain to this thread at all I just couldn't find the other one where we were talking about it. :)

Your speakers don't necessarily need to be "way out in front". If they are set just ahead of the rack of gear, that will do it for any gear obstructing the sound stage. I have experimented with this and that's what I have found, but your mileage may vary.

Hi Steve

I think only the Klipschorns need false corners. You might be surprised how well they will do in your room.

Paul...I believe these are Joe's Cornwall IIIs, no? That's what Steve said in his response to me at least.

Cyril...I don't know what have you been spoke with Steve. I just thought since Joe's getting few pair of speakers his cornwall might fit the bill for Steve :)
