I've heard good things about that tube though I've never heard it myself.Another sublime low wattage tube is the PX-25. 6 watts that are wonderful with smaller scale music. Mine were in the Art Audio PX-25 SET amplifier. The sound was way better than what my Audio Note 300B (not their top model) could deliver.
Dynaco made a little amp called the ST35 that is recognized as the best sounding amp they made. It makes 17.5 Watts/channel and is more linear than the ST70 or SCA35 owing to no use of pentode Voltage amps in the circuit.I never tried 45's but liked 2A3's quite a bit. The 2A3's didn't have quite enough power for most of the stuff I listen to. On stuff like James Taylor, they were fine. I ultimately settled on EL34's as 25wpc does dynamics and bass quite a lot better than just a few watts. Ultimately, it depends on your speakers and your preferred flavor. Have fun with it!
I had a little VTL amp about 25 years ago that sounded superb, like a moron, I sold it to a buddy of mine. I can't remember exactly but it was like 15 or 20wpc. Anybody familiar with this amp and can help with a name or anything for it?
