Hi all,

What are your thoughts on the following statement regarding ethernet vs usb?

http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2016/06/reference-grade-roon-with-the-antipodes-dx-gen-2/

"According (to) our man in New Zealand the argument against Ethernet (and for USB) runs like this: compared to Ethernet, USB has the potential to carry more noise from the server to the DAC but generates less of its own noise inside the DAC (think: receiver chips). Ethernet remains a good strategy with a noisy server. However, it can be bested by USB when a low noise server with a decent clock is present."

Many thanks in advance.

It's not that it's the wrong forum, but this has been discussed a lot. I've said it before and I'll said it again, USB was never designed for high end audio music signals. AES/EBU, BNC are both superior connections IMO.

But it's a USB world, so we deal with it the best we can with regenerators, reclockers and the like.

The guys on CA are trying to hit a moving target. They've clearly forgotten the KISS principle.

Remember my post on "the good old CD player"? When I start seeing routers, switches, software, computers, NAS drives, miles of Ethernet cable, regenerators, reclockers, 10 different associated power supplies, Ethernet to whatever boxes and more, I can't help but wonder if this is like trying to make pancakes with 250 ingredients.

I look in on CA from time to time, but it just gives me a headache.
If audio was truly as complicated as those guys try to make it, I would take up sailing.

Nailed it. Does make anyone wary of wading into the ethernet world.

You have a really nice network music player. My advise is to enjoy it. You could try some AQ network cable(s).

Let those CA guys "play computer", you play music!

Roger that! Not even thinking of network cables at all, ever.

I use CAT7, but I had a client buy all AQ Ethernet cables for his 5 systems and he swears it made an improvement.

Don't you love that app? Lumin licensed it to Esoteric. I love the Lumin app, but the Aurender app is nipping at its heels. Both are great and way better than the Auralic app.

To use the Lumin/Esoteric app, I need to connect the N-05 to the network which it is not.
I gave up on the HRA player by Esoteric as it wasn't stable in SQ and cannot be remotely controlled.
I am very happy now with JRMC and its Gizmo app for flipping through all my music on a tablet. :)
