Ethernet Cables

Thank you Joe, I appreciate the welcome. I expect that if I'd joined earlier I would have either saved a lot of money or spent even more. Point in case, I just discovered Aurender streamers:-)

I'm streaming Tidal from a dedicated server computer through Roon to Lumin S1.

If I we're to upgrade one ethernet cable, which might give me the most impact? The cable from computer to Router or Lumin to Router?

Lumin to Router.
 
My thoughts would be the router to lumin Ethernet.cable. If the distance is not too long you could really get a great cable without too much $. Unfortunately my distance is about 40’

i use an Apple Airport Express and network switch. Wireless between the router and the Airport Express. Cables between the AE and a switch and then from the switch to a NAS, Streamer, etc. Works flawlessly.

I found that cable modem to router got better results, but going the other way you also benefit a bit for any NAS you might be using too.

But this could vary from ethernet cable and systems, so worth testing out both combos and see what works best for you.

I've ended up actually just getting the TP-link modem router combo CR1900 (I know, capable router.. but it does everything I need it to do anyways) with one SOtM DBL-CAT7 cable from device to my LUMIN S1. I found going to an integrated solution sounded better, cheaper from a components and cable perspective; and then saw an immense jump in performance when I upgraded the power supply to an SOtM SPS-500.

The Aurenders do rock. I use Nordost Heimdell between the switch and the Aurender, mainly for the benefit of Tidal, also there is no external drive but I assume this would help if there was, need to read up on that. I use the heavy ended Audio Quest Vodka between the Direct Stream and the Network switch for Tidal and Roon with positive results.

High dollar ethernet cables; crazy but they do make a difference.
 
For me it is also Audioquest Vodka for both, from router to Nyquist and router to Aurender.

I recently upgraded to aq vodka from switch to devialet . I ve tried a pair on my system before deciding, with different config, modem/router,macbook/router, router/switch etc etc.....and the later was the best.
I upgraded also the power supply of my modem/router/switch to ifi power supply and this brought a more significant jump in sq.

With a length of 40' from the router to the Lumin, what would be a practical choice (meaning something far less than $50/ft) for the Eithernet cable? Ordinary Cat 6 or 7 cable is about $0.15/ft. How bad would it be?
 
Time to try using a pair of fiber media converter (FMC). Fiber has the advantage of isolating noise (with potential SQ improvement), and can be used for long lengths.

There are users of Lumin and other network players who reported positive SQ improvement with a fiber-based setup.

Connection:
WiFi Router -> FMC -> fiber -> FMC -> Lumin

Models:
Lumin U1 / M1 / D2 : TP-Link MC210CS (about $45 x 2)
Lumin S1 / A1 / T1 / D1: TP-Link MC110CS (about $32 x 2)

Note:
The Lumin-side FMC needs to be equipped with a LPS. As a start, this $11 power supply received praises from multiple computeraudiophile forum members:
