ELAC Andante AS-61

If you are going to keep the Pass Int-60 I would definitely listen to the SF's first as they may be to much of a good thing. The TAD's and Isophon's reputation is to be forward so they may match with the Pass or not. If where you are the Canton's are easy to get a listen to I would try them. A guy on another forum is using them with a Luxman integrated and loves them so who know how they would sound with Pass. I am from the "Musical" (Harbrth, Spendor, Reynaud, Nola, Vandersteen) camp so don't know much about the "detail and transparency" camp of speakers. I am more a Dudley, Neill guy than a Valin or Harley guy so take my recommendations in that light.

Well, I’m solidly in the ‘has to sound good’ camp [emoji3].

One pair of speakers is Magicos, another pair is Harbeth. I think the total system and room has to be a good combination.

with regards to replacement of harbs in your summer house , have you ever heard falcon speakers , they were playing these babies at the bristol show and the new p3esr anniversary and i preferred the falcons i think . MASSIVE sound from these standmounts , in fact folks all though the big floorstanders were playing

https://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/ls3-5a-full-bbc-specification.html

I have heard of Falcon, but not auditioned their speakers. These would however be another BBC monitor type, so I’m not sure what the advantage over Harbeth would be. But let’s see if I get a chance to hear them somewhere.

Also, there is nothing wrong with my Harbeths, I think they’re great. I might also just add a sub to the 3PSRs, let’s see.

As the summerhouse listening room is fairly small, I will need not too large speakers.

Besides the Boenicke W5 SE I liked (just al least so far not quite accepting the hefty price of 5K for such small speakers), these Trenner & Friedl Sun could be a fairly nice option with a good sub:

Very small, but raving reviews on several continents.

Triangle is definitely an interesting excellent value for money option and quite popular in Europe. For my special purpose their Triangle Signature Theta is another standmount hitting way above its price point I am looking at, and which could be a replacement for the 3PSRs. They compete head-to-head with the Adantes.

You should check this out!

Aulos bookshelf from Heil AMT, Switzerland. Not sure who is the dealer in Germany, but you could contact Martin Durrenmatt directly. Very nice fellow. [email protected]

Speaker stands are optional and act as a subwoofer for extending the bass down from the stock 45hz to about 30-33hz, I believe. The Heil tweeter is set in a tunnel, so is semi-open baffle dipole radiator. Will be a lot airier than traditional tweeters. Cost is circa €2.2K a pair, and Sub-Stands are about €1.5K per pr. He may be in Munich this year too.

I agree that the Elac is getting great reviews. Interesting design there with wave guided concentric HF setup and passive radiator.

I auditioned the Boenicke W5 SE and was also very impressed. The W8 floorstander is essentially similar size profile to the W5 SE but gives a little more in my opinion (for a small additional spend). Might be worth consideration but they do like a lot of space around them so if your room is small then perhaps not the right choice.

I found this review quite instructive.

Apologies if you are aware and discounted already.

I'm a huge fan of Trenner & Friedl Art mini-monitors. They're a bit larger than the Sun's, which I also owned, but offer much more performance IMO. Insofar as mini-monitors are concerned, I haven't heard anything better. Boenicke will be showing at AXPONA next week. I hope to demo Sven's speakers. The hifiknights did a shootout between the Art's ad the W5, the latter seeming to win by a hair.

Here's a link to the review for the Art (comparing them to the W5):http://hifiknights.com/reviews/speakers/trennerfriedl-art/

The author concludes:

"Andreas Friedl is clearly of the same breed as Sven Boenicke. These gents know exactly what’s what and their actions get us to simply marvelous, well-thought sound. One pays quite a lot of money for a pair of small monitors in both cases, yet such high level know-how and outcome this staggering has to be valued. Craftsmanship behind exceptional build quality is a part of the justified asking price in both Swiss and Austrian scenarios as well.

In order to not get things overly complicated and common aspects aside, picture this: if substance and romantic character are among your top priorities, Trenner&Friedl Art is the way to go whereas Boenicke Audio W5 comes in when spaciousness and soundstaging is what you desire the most. Subjectively, if yours truly had to pick one he’d go after Swiss brand as he got used to W5’s. Yet this is a matter of individual preferences and nothing else. It’s also clear for me that both aforementioned models perform the same quality magic and are worthy opponents one to another. In the end let’s just say that this review is a case of equally exquisite dishes served by master-chefs of completely different cuisines, yet both damn tasty nonetheless. Pick one accordingly and bon appétit, you’ll thank me later. ‘Till next time."

Thanks for sharing Norman, the Aulos looks interesting.

I hope they are presented in Munich, would like to hear them.

Thanks for sharing, great comparison.

I have heard both and was solo more impressed with the W5. But maybe that picture will change with a sub added.

Sure wish I could check out the Heil Kithara and Soulos which Norman so highly recommends, but I haven’t found a source in the USA to hear them. Does anyone know if they’re available in the States?
