Again, nice and philosophical Bob, but I think most of us here talking about retirement are talking about having enough funds to retire comfortably, which means not running out of money before just plain running out (of heartbeats). Nobody wants to end up being spoon fed and having their ass wiped in some nursing home by someone who could give a shit about you. And, if you're married, that means also planning for and having consideration of your wife. I think for most of us that also means not becoming a burden on society in our later years. I don't know about you, but I for one am sure not going to be counting on some "social safety net" to provide for me in my old-age.
I want to be able to afford to continue with my anti-aging BHRT protocols, and stay youthful as long as possible, and have the $$ to still enjoy life. Food costs up up up, fuel costs up up up, taxes up up up. Just enough to get by probably isn't. I'd prefer not to leave it to chance, and just getting by, well, I did that in my youth. It wasn't all that fun.
And having met BobM at our Rhapsody get together a few weeks back, I imagine he also wants to have a wine budget! He might have to work a few more years to plan for that!
