DSD Playback on non dedicated audio equipment

Lampi DSD is a separate Dac in the same box in most models. In the DSD-only model, it cannot play back PCM at all and only accepts DOP. It's essentially a filter box and the sound is outstanding...see Bruce Brown's review at Stereomojo.com

I reviewed the Lampi Level 4 which does both PCM and DSD and was quite fond of it.

OK Mark, i thought it was a PCM only Lampi dac. My bad!

Actually Audio Bill, I have no clue about the L5…I have never heard one…nor the Amber Dac.

I would love to hear the DSD only version of the Lampi.

The DSD Playback in the Big 7 is supposed to be even better! Its the DHT tubes…they make a big difference. I have one, but am yet to hook it up to my computer, so havent hear it at home yet. However, I did hear it this Summer and was impressed.

I have no doubts it will sound better. Please let us know what you think after you have spent some time with it.

As long as he is not the guy who sweats bullets at the prospect of an in-home trial and thinks shipping a DAC two states over will cost him a year's salary and his first born son.

Just curious who this shot was intended for, but pretty sure we know.

You know, some people live on a tight budget and don't have spare cash falling out of their butts like others do. Those people enjoy audio and like to discuss it, whether they have a HE system or a Sony Receiver or whether or not they can or choose to take a loss on shipping/restocking for in home trials
