Hi all,

Any of you guys considering the new Lampi DSD Komputer. Looks like a great package especially for those (including me) who don't want to be messing about making one yourself.

Specs look top notch and the finish looks great. Good to know that Lukasz has built the power supply too. Would love to hear this against an Aurender.

KOMPUTER - MUSIC SERVER

Where does he say that he has a special lampizated power supply? - "fanless linear power supply (not impulse), high-end enclosure with fanless cooling, dedicated separate supply to power the heart of the system"

He also says "
There is no rocket science in our Komputer. Anybody can, and really SHOULD make such one for himself. It just takes time and money to buy EVERY part from a different vendor from a different country. First we have to import and stock this stuff in bulk. Pay shipping, customs and duties. Make sure everything matches. Have a skilled IT man put everything carefully together which takes 3 full days and 2 days testing and troubleshooting. Playing test music always with Golden Gate DAC as our ultimate sound benchmark ! "

He does not say nor did I say that he has a "special Lampizated" supply :)

I assumed the external power supplied with the dsd Komputer is built by Lampizator - perhaps Fred or someone else who knows can advise?

Hi Bill,

I'm fairly certain the power supply IS Lukasz' build. I am planning on getting one of these in house soon as Lukasz is quite thrilled with this build mated with the Golden Gate.

Best,

Fred

Yes, this is what Audiocrack in Holland said at WBF:

Starting to understand what the Lampi 'hype' is all about. In combination with the new dedicated server that Lukasz only very recently finished I experience a tonality to die for and - depending on the recording of course - a huge soundstage. Wish I would be able to combine all this with a Tripoint emperor because I am sure this would add another dimension to what I am already hearing right now. Anyway, there is still an awful lot to discover.

====================================

Well Wisnon, my holiday is nearing its end. So after the visit of Lukasz and after I dropped him off at Schiphol airport I started listening very intensively to all kind of dsd files (and with some you are quite familiar) from eg Channel Classics, Pentatone, Mercury, RCA (Living Stereo), Highdeftapetransfers, etc. I already described earlier on this thread that the Tidal LA speakers are phenomenal. However, the dedicated server Lukasz built for me is extraordinary as well and is driving the Lampi Golden Gate dac to levels I had not experienced before. Good dsd on the Tidal LA's is way better than I had ever antipated. As a matter of fact, the system sounds so awfully good that for the first time in my life I am really sad that next Monday working life starts again.

There information on what parts are used to build the Komputer?
Guys

The new or the original one ? The original one was based on my server build. The new one, introduced just a few months back, uses custom made PSU and non server parts.

Ok, then we can build our own if there are custom parts.

You cans still build the original, which is a terrific sounding server. This is the model both Mike Lavigne and Audiocrack have.

The server is based on Chris Connaker's build published on Computer Audiophile, known as CAPS v4 Pipeline:

http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/612-computer-audiophile-pocket-server-c-p-s-v4-pipeline/

Motherboard: Supermicro X10SLH-F
Case: Streacom FC10
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1241 v3 (BX80646E31241V3)
RAM: Crucial (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Server Memory (CT2KIT102472BD160B)
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 128GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-7KE128BW)

The server has the following mods done to it:
- SOtM USB card replaced with Jcat USB card (http://jplay.eu/jcat)
- generic SATA cables replaced with Jcat SATA ones (http://jplay.eu/jcat)
- OS replaced with Win Server 2012 (http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/652-audiophile-optimizer-raises-bar)
- Audiophile Optimizer software installed (http://www.highend-audiopc.com)

My personal server has also the data holding HDD removed - I keep all my music on a Synology 1815+ NAS. I have also changed the HD Plex PSU with Teradak full ATX linear one (http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f...ll-atx-linear-power-supply-unit-teradak-21810) and added an external, quality +5V supply for the Jcat USB card (using the UpTone JS-2 right now: http://uptoneaudio.com/products/js-2-linear-power-supply).

Be aware though, that Room may not work with this Supermicro server MoBo, due to limited onboard graphics. For that, it is better to use a regular consumer grade MoBo.

Hi all,

New Lampi Komputer looks very promising indeed and great price:

"We start rolling out our new Komputer for music. It has skylake processor, ddr4 ram, super-ssd system hdd with 5x trsnsfer speed compared to the best samsung ssd pro. We run Roon on HQPlayer with Tidal + LINUX os. No Windows mess. All 100% fanless. SPDIF AND tube-spdif on top of usb outputs. We offer one TB of storage Ssd with optional hook ups for 8 TB SSD. We said goodbye to hdd. If you have Tidal and Roon who needs big noisy hdd?!"

The problem that I have with this is my system can easily differentiate between tidal and normal album even if it's a cd rip of the same.
Tidal sounds compressed.

Hi Deuter,

I don't understand what you mean? The server stores all your music and is able to upsample this to quad dsd in hqplayer and output this with sota fidelity.

Tidal is another separate feature that is great to have in addition so that you can enjoy Tidal in the best way possible. They are mutually exclusive in this way.

Not sure whether Lampi does, but the SGM server will send Tidal to Hqplayer for upsampling to quad too. So whilst Tidal might never exceed the performance of your files, this is not the point - it is not either or but both and...

The secret killer may be the Tubed SPDIF out. I recall how great that was with the Lampi Transport! Now its back again.

Yeah - with you, Norm. I actually asked a question to Lukasz what is the optimum 16/44 method:

1. Komputer tube spdif > discrete r2r PCM engine
2. Komputer hqplayer > upsampled to quad dsd to dsd engine

That said, I assume that the spdif Komputer output can't do dsd? Assume it is only PCM?

I was not criticising Komputer at all, I was just expressing my view in Tidal as I currently have it integrated with Roon and although it's good to find new music.
The quality is very sub par, disappointed that the subscription is so high.
When are they introducing MQA.

Okay got you. Do you have the full uncompressed service package? I get very decent sound through my Aries with Tidal - nothing to complain about at all - very competent. It is no dsd file but still great. The SGM server should improve it as it upsampled Tidal to quad or octa dsd within hqplayer.

I do have the paid version got hifi quality. Iam not saying it's bad but my system is too revealing and you can hear that the dynamics aren't there.

What do you have in your system?
