QNAP fanless HS-453DX.
There is a pretty large number of online complaints concerning overheating.
QNAP fanless HS-453DX.
And now a happy update.
I did an internet search and found direction to determine where the problem might be. Though it didn't tell me what actually happened I do have the NAS up and working again.
The suggestion was:
Remove all storage drives. Then remove the internal hard drive from the Synology.
Turn on the NAS and see if it settles in with the normal constant blue light at the power button. It was on mine.
If that happens turn off the NAS and reinstall the internal hard drive and power up to see if the blue light is constant. Again it was on mine.
This apparently showed that the hard drive and motherboard were functioning properly.
Next reinstall the drives back in the location they were previously. Power up the NAS and wait 5 minutes to see if the blue light is now constant. It was not, still flashing.
I decided to reconnect it to the system and see what happens. it took most of the 5 minutes but the blue light then stayed constantly on and the green light indicator for each storage drive was on.
One thing I probably should have done to begin with was log in to it with Synology Assistant. I had switched from a laptop controlling the system to an iPad and the Synology Assistant Icon was not there to jog my memory. I logged in and the readings said everything was working properly.
I don't understand it but, I guess just a typical anomaly when combining multiple pieces of electronics.
Roon only needed to recover the data relating to the music to allow it to play.
Thanks for the suggestion hopefully it will live a long life.
Hopefully, we all become aware of the dependance on parts from China. I don't mean this to be political just reality of wanting cheap prices.
