...with digital inputs? I know the top of the line DSD DAC-only available from Luxman is the DA-06. But I was wondering if the DAC sections in the CD/SACD players are similar and/or stand up to the DA-06 which has gotten excellent reviews. I like the idea of having both disc-spinning and digital inputs in one box as the Esoteric players have. Luxman is another option so looking for any user feedback.

Kev..I know you have the DA-06 so any feedback would be appreciated on that unit.

Thx

I love the brand and cd player idea. But wait .... Isnt this unit cost about 18k though ?

D-05 is $5K
D-06 is $9K
D-08 is $18K

Just looked up the specs...the digital inputs on all these players only support PCM 14-24 bits and 44-96KHz and these are about 5+ years old. Given that their newer DA-06 DAC only design has gotten great reviews and can support all hi-rez PCM formats and up to 2X DSD on the USB input, I have to believe that they will migrate that DAC's capabilities into their CD/SACD players unless they are not planning on updating the disc players anymore.

Cyril - The updated latest versions from Luxman are the D-06u and D-08u, which are both CD/SACD/DACs that support up to 2x DSD via USB as well as PCM up to 32bits at 384kHz. I previously posted my impressions from AXPONA of the D-08u here, which when playing back a standard CD blew away my expectations of digital playback. I can confirm that the D-08u lists for $18,000 US.

Cyril, the dac is great value for the money, has a warm presentation so is best suited to a neutral amp imo.

The above is the D-08 SACD Bricasti M1 dac, Audia Flight preamp & amp & Evolution Acoustic speakers. Only heard 1/2 a dozen songs through it & liked it but very hard to make an honest appraisal of the system as all were things I've never heard before. The Luxman sound can be disconcerting to some if they are not used to it at first as the warm presentation almost fools one into thinking that the detail is missing, thats what I have found anyway.

Thx  Do you perchance know the MSRP on the D-06u?

Thx Kev  Do you use the DA-06 primarily with macbookpro as source only or do you ever you use a CD transport (i.e., the Oppo) into it as well? I have read all the reviews and many agree with you that it leans towards a warmer presentation but that all the detail is actually there but not thrust in your face, and the word that seems to be repeated is "natural" in terms of the aural impression it has made on the various interviewers. Sounds right up my alley.

Cyril, i am & always will be a mac guy until the wind changes :snicker: but in answer to your question,... "yes" & no cd transport. The D-06 is very natural but with meps' bucket list thread going at the mo I'd be careful in that general area mentioning alleys!!! At the mo the Luxman & the Vitus is too dark for the wife, soon as she heard it she said it sounds "muffled"! As I'm trying to teach her to hear/use her ears, I said explain, her answer was "the detail has gone" Well bugger me, was I a proud "johnny on the spot"!

After doing some searching it appears that the D-06u retails for $9,900 US.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean for you to do the research. I figured if you knew off the top of your head, that would have been great. I could have searched around but thank you for doing it
