Do you ever think you hear the phone ringing when you're playing music?

I have to admit, especially when playing my tube gear, I get this big 3D thing going on and swear I hear the phone ringing or something off to the side or even behind me. I'm often looking around the room hearing things, thinking I'm going crazy, but realize it's the music.

Do you ever hear things that aren't there? :)
 
Hmmm. I never experience that. Was it iPhone or android ring sound? [emoji23]

Joke aside. Yes I get that 3D sounds especially with when the symbol hits on jazz music.

Joe, let me ask a couple of questions: Do you also sometimes see something odd, like little green men? Or do you have the feeling you're being followed when going to the kitchen for a glass of water?

If the answer to either question is yes, this is a clear case of urgent upgraditis: You need to get the Living Voice Vox Olympians you have been longing for, immediately! Otherwise peril will loom.

Another, although much less likely reason, could be that as you have a highly sensitive audio system, your wires are picking up radio signals from the surroundings. This in quite common, but most systems are not sensitive enough so you can hear it.

Ha! Me too, you guys are funny. No need to be sorry. It's ok, I'm probably a "little" crazy, but I've been up most of the night after I hooked up my Triode Corp amps again. Damn tubes. They kill any and every solid state out there, hands down. I play a few songs then load up a few albums in the playlist, then a few more and before I know it, light is coming through my windows. Tube amps are really worth it.

I hear phones also.... especially when listening to Heart "Soul Of The Sea"... something happens to me after about 3 minutes or so in that song :)...

Now having lived a little with some tubes, I think that you know better. Tubes breathe life into the music. It really is amazing. Sure there are some minor trade offs but you know it's undeniable. My MXR twenties are awesome but tubes rule!

No tubes and I get that all the time. Sometimes turn down to see if anyone's at the door lol

Google phantom ringing ... it's a known psycho acoustic phenomenon. Made worse by our constant use of cell phones. The classic phone ring is typically a 1000 Hz tone which can be generated by certain combinations of frequencies. It is also one of those frequencies that is hard to localize.

That doesn't explain the sound prior to cell phones, mine I hardly use at all.
This is more to do with immersion from frontal stereo possibly due to room reflections at certain frequencies coming from certain directions mimicking real sounds with leading edge information/directional cues.
That or my cat likes messing with me :)

ps. Joe, I don't think we're both crazy, but maybe independent analysis is best!
 
Ha! Makes me feel better. It's the strangest sensation but I feel I'm in great company.

Once again that wouldn't explain the sound of a door closing or other sounds that sound absolutely nothing like phone rings. Actually very little of what I occasionally perceive sounds anything like "ringing".
Can't speak for Joe but it can sound like a car door closing from outside or some other directional "real" sound, that doesn't sound like part of music. I guess one just has to experience it to know.
Either via insanity or a haunted house, possibly both!
