Do Cadilacs still cost more to repair than other GM cars?

Years ago owning a Caddy meant that when a part or repair was needed, Pep Boys did not have the parts and you had to go to the Dealer and get ripped. Even if the Caddy used the same GM part as other GM cars.

I will need to replace my 11 y/o Implala with 65k miles on it in a year or two and want another "bigger car". I don't like sardine cans and other cars that leave you feeling that your chin is scraping the road and your main view forward are other peoples axles.

Cars on my list include the Chrysler 300 but I just started realizing that the newer Caddies look great. Off of a short lease with 20 to 25K miles leaves them with a reasonable price tag.

Just wondering if the parts and repairs are still more expensive than other GM cars like it was 20-30 years ago.

Thanks,

brian

Any expensive car will cost more to repair than a less expensive car. I suspect the logic is, if you can afford the car then you can afford the repairs.

Thanks for the reply. I do buy into that but the Caddies are not much different in price than many others like the Chrysler 300 and such. The old issue was that you could not even buy the parts from a distributor even if the same part is used on a Buick or Oldsmobile.

This won't be my deciding factor, just curious if it's the same as it was in the 70s and 80s.

A mechanic friend of mine still says that Cadillacs have one of the best, most trouble-free powertrains in the business.

If you go to a dealer - then yes you will get ripped unless you have someone on the inside.

However, the beauty of the majority of GM cars is that if you have a good local mechanic - even at a SpeeDee or QuikLube whatever type place - they can 99.9% of the time do the repairs/maintenance at way cheaper rates (and you usually get the job done - whereas dealers have been known in the past to not do the repairs fully in order to have you keep coming back... this is especially prevalent in out of warranty vehicles).

If you are in warranty, however - dealer always! Make friends with the service manager and make sure any issue is under the bumper-to-bumper, which GM's coverage is extremely solid.

I have always been firm on Dealer ONLY when under warranty, never for routine repairs. I know it's not true, but I used to say that the mechanics at dealerships are ones that couldn't make it at Pep Boys. I have a good mechanic I have used for many years that I can trust. The main question I guess was about the parts, you used to only be able to get Caddy parts from a Caddy dealer.

Brian , I have a 12 Escalade so far the driver side mirror needed replaced knocked backing out of garage, purchased at a chevy dealer cheaper that Caddy dealer same
