How bad are digital converters? I have a somewhat non-critical application but I still don't want horrible sound. I am considering an Aurender ACS10 for CD copying and limited music playback. This would not be in my dedicated awesome system and room.

The Aurender only has USB out. Both of my integrated amps and possible new HT processor only accept optical or coaxial digital inputs. Hence the question about adapters. Thoughts? Recommendations?

I'm not sure what you have in your main system I think the ACS10 is great. I suspect your comments were toward the converter just know the ACS10 rips and stores but it's not a toy it sounds great. In fact I kept moving up until I finally heard the ACS10 that finally satisfied me.

When I bought my external DAC I made sure it had USB. Same prior with my preamp. I'm not that familiar with USB converters. I do know that MSB and Berkley both charge about $2500 for theirs.

Inferior to the ACS10 you could get the Bluesound Node which if memory serves gives alternative digital out, same with NAD M50.2.

My great room HT system is compromised by less than perfect speaker placement. Music there is rare and usually only when I am cooking. I never sit and listen. My dedicated audio system is in a separate room. Source there is an Aurender N30SA.

My question about adapters was primarily about the cheap ($30) ones on Amazon. Spending for an ACS10 is already overkill for that system.

I just found this. It would work for the AES/EBU input on my Boulder 866. And the brand has some recognition and happy owners. I feel some comfort there.
