Did I miss the memo?

There are more copies of Lyrita SRCS 109 for sale on ebay than I can ever remember seeing. Are Lyrita reissues around the corner? Larry?

Rob, I haven't heard anything. Usually the sales don't come until the reissue is actually released. Winston Ma and I were working to get licenses for at least SRCS109. a couple of years ago. At the time Richard Itter, founder of Lyrita was seriously ill and later died. Our request was to be presented to the Board of the Wyastone Foundation in Wales, which owns or controls Lyrita rights, in September 2013. However, after that date, we tried several subsequent unsucessful attempts at contact, and finally gave up. It was after that time that Mr. Itter died. There may be now more interest in licensing, but we have not pursued it further. As you know, Decca did the engineering of the Lyrita stereo releases, with Ken 'Wilkie' Wilkinson doing about have of the 100 vinyl releases. SRCS109, the Arnold Dances, was engineered by my friend, John Dunkerley. He gave me copies of the session sheets for the recording which I reproduced last year in my Decca book.

Larry is there any way of buying the book without all the CDs?

Hi Myles,
Sorry, the CD's are available separately with the liner notes in volume II of the book. However, Decca/Universal would not allow the book to be sold separately without the volume with the CD's. Probably related to how royalties are paid.

Thanks so much!

Larry, did you know about the 180g German reissue from 2013? it was by Pauler Acoustic (stockfisch?) and - hit me with the stupid stick - DMM mastered.

I say you and Winston should pursue the title again and do it justice.

Thanks, Rob. I'll take a look. Wyastone had certainly licensed that reissue before our request. Perhaps that explains the lack of a response. I know that Winston has been using Chad Kassem to do his recent limited number of vinyl releases.

Rob-are you saying the Arnold Dances was released by Stockfisch? Am I confused because otherwise it flew over my head?

Stockfisch Records if I understand their literature not only use DMM but convert everything to digital before feeding the signal to the cutting lathe.

Myles, check it out: Malcolm Arnold English Irish Scottish Cornish Dances Lyrita 180g LP Germany | eBay

click the photo of the back and use the zoom function to read the credits at the bottom of the jacket. I think this was an exclusive release intended for Asia.

I saw an article that few DMM lathes still exist in operable condition, mainly because of a dwindling parts supply (thank god). there's maybe one operable lathe in the US and a handful in Europe (mostly Germany).

Thanks. I keep a close tabs on releases at Acoustic Sounds and Ekusive Disc and never saw any announcement of the release. You are right in that it probably was never brought into the U.S?

Still is it a digital/DMM release on LP? Is that what the "enhanced" means?

Rob, very interesting. It also says in back that it was "Enhanced and premastered by Hans-Joerg Maucksch". I wonder what "Enhanced and premastered" means. Goosed up? Digitized? I saw a couple of listings, both in the $150-200 for a sealed copy range, which sounds like a limited edition to me. Otherwise, the usual suspects in the US would have been advertising the record when it came out in 2013.

I just talked to John Dunkerley, who was the original recording engineer for the album. He knew nothing about the 2013 release. Interesting that they did not consult the person who actually did the recording when they did this release. His comment on "enhancing" was not positive and not for polite company.
