I know that their are some dealers involved here on AS. Without having to look at all signatures etc, is there a thread that I have overlooked that lists these individuals and what product lines they carry? There is not too much I do not purchase locally but when the situation arrises it would be nice to be able to have one go to thread that is not cluttered with other posts.

So after 24 hours and no response I take it there is no one place to go to find which dealers participate on this site.

We require dealers to list their brands in their signature.

What else would you like to see?

You can always create a thread under General Audio.

I think he is looking for a "dealer directory" with a listing of their lines so you would know who to contact directly for product info.

Requiring dealers etc to post industry affiliation is a great start and you are commended for that action for several reasons.

What I am suggesting is those dealers who wish would have one thread where they could list products they would be willing (and authorized) to sell to participants here. It would not be a thread where others would post questions and become hard to sift through.

Hey maybe I should have posted this in your "What would improve AS" thread.

I think it is a good idea Jim, but, there will always be some that take it as their direct connection into giving one of the dealers etc. a hard time, whether it be everyday forum members or from one dealer to another. Obviously it would need some thought & parameters set.

As I stated in OP I do support and purchase most of my gear from local dealer(s). It has been a long time since I have leveraged the Net to attain better pricing and have no plans on doing so in the future. There are some products that might interest me that are not carried locally and this is where I would like to support those who add value to sites such as this.

Jim...this thread kind of does what you want but it is not an exhaustive list of dealers who participate on AS: http://audioshark.org/mission-statement-5/audio-dealers-4144.html

Your idea is a good one to have a formal dealer directory on AS and the lines they carry but hopefully as a first step, the above will help.

I like your idea Jim. I wonder if making the thread/forum read-only and edited by mods only would work?

Perhaps it's a simple matter (????) to parse data upon new member/dealer signups on AS or even parsing the data from existing participants from their signature lines?

Regardless, it means work for someone or several people without pay.

I think the simple thing would be a dealer directory where the dealer would create the entry into a list that would not allow inquiries or posts and only the dealer could make changes to that listing. Then if a member wanted info on a product or line he would contact the dealer directly through PM or other means. Not a thread, just a static list.

This is the best idea. Thanks for stating it simply Jack.

Sounds like a good plan. Read only and I suppose as long as it doesn't result in a one man dealer list claiming legendary status by trying to sell everything. :pirate:

I'm a dealer but want to change my status as a user.
Have lots of trouble with other dealers ( haters) that see me as a hazard and I got tired of them

And I miss all of you guys
Been in the shadow of AS is not fun

Nicely stated.

I understand your situation. In general I am surprised many dealers or manufacturers involve themselves in this or similar sites. Too often they spend time justifying actions, decisions or products when they would probably rather function as a resource.

Jim, great minds think alike! I had posted the idea for a dealer listing of equipment they sell and their location in the "What would improve..." thread.

It's nice to have a 'dealer' ...but who ever sells (it)to me the cheapest wins. Loyalty to lowest price, best service and sound quality. You know who you are.
