D'Agostino Momentum M400

I've been listening to the new M400 mono blocks from D'Agostino and I have to say that they are A LOT better than the M300s in my system.

They almost make the M300 sound broken. Obviously in the scheme of things we are talking minor differences because the M300s are fantastic amps and have many many great reviews out there. But none the less, its an obvious difference.

The coherency and the level of micro detail in the bass is mesmerizing.

As many know, for the last 6 months, I've been going back and forth between the M300s and the Ayre MXR20s. And I really couldn't decide on a winner. The MXR20s over the MXRs took a leap and got them right there with the M300s. The Ayre had tighter bass and smoother vocals, but the M300s had a more cohesive top to bottom range to them.

Well, the new M400s over the M300s imo are a bigger leap than from the MXR to MXR20 was.

Well done Dan!!

Jock,

They sound so nice you had to say it twice :D

I'll leave the duplicate in to make a point. Congratulations, I am sure you are in heaven now.

Mine are on their way back to me. Hopefully I'm in the sweet spot with them next Saturday.

Glad you are enjoying them Jock! I'm waiting for my upgraded S250 to arrive from the factory.

Finally have a delivery date for my M400 upgraded mono's - Next Thursday. The dealer who helped me mentioned to me last nigh that he has a pair of M300 mono's brand new in box but with cosmetic damage (undefined severity). He's going to let them go for $20K. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll give you the contact data.

Where's Joe?

After a three month wait, my M400's arrived and shortly thereafter they were installed and powered up. The upgrade did nothing to reduce their weight! After the grunting was over, I settled into the sweet spot and selected a playlist that had my "go to" tracks for system evaluation. The M300's were already the best amplifier (solid state or tube!) I have ever heard in my system. Would the improvement justify the $15K upgrade cost? You bet - right out of the box. Wider and deeper soundstage. More contrast between sound and background. If they improve as they break in I fear I shall never leave my music room. I am definitely biased towards SS amps and even more so to Dan D'agostina designs since I've had several over the past 25 years. For me, in my system, in my room, with my favorite tracks and music, I have heard no better sound.

Sweet Cincy! Been reading a bit about em after Axpona. Massive power supply and double the current to the output stage of the 300. As good as they were, the dynamics must be off the charts in these babies.

Funny you said something about the weight. I swear that they are heavier after the upgrade. :)

I'm glad you are enjoying them as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Jock didn't know you did it too. Congrats. The 1800 va transformer must be the culprit; that beast must be heavy but its a brilliant move by Dan. Enjoy!!
