In listening to the new ps audio pikes peak frimware.
I have only used the DS. I figured its only fair to stay with one dac while trying to get a handle on pike . It's been about two or three weeks since the lampi has glowed.
so after reading pages of peoples views of the pike verses that last 121 release . Finally I had to do what I wanted to do the first day I loaded it.
So tonight with a fresh glass of my blue scotch I did it. Could the lampi be so much more sweet as I remembered it. You know how the past old times get better with age and booze lol.
I used stock tubes in the lampi eml 45 eml and the sophia electric princess rectifier . I let them glow for about thirty mins or so. And began to play some favorites . Wow I missed this dac. As the new pike finally moved the DS and all,past ps audio dacs out of the warm of neutral comfort zone I welcomed it and I still do. It finally shows how good the dac is. But as it did this it lost important values to me. The timbre may be more detailed then ever before but it lacks the thickness as the notes now just apear and as fast as that there gone. I think this is why it seems so much more detailed . But it does make me feel right , it's not keeping me there . The lampi proves that point. It's just more of making want to stay there . Listing the music does not tell why I feel the way I do. It's not the music it's the way it's presented . Male voices and piano show this very clearly .
Where the lampi is just as detailed it's apparent right as the music starts to play. As I am sure there are some systems this may help it does not help any of mine. Mind you this is with stock tubes not bad ones but theres more to be had with the lampi if I rolled.
But I do be leave this is the best showing of the ds as yet. And some may disagree but I'll bet most would not.
The DS seems thin and the lampi is so much more full. Piano is a difficult sound to reproduce for dacs , few make it real for me. As the DS sounds nice the lampi is real . Maybe on the next release ps audio can add that note decay that's needed maybe. As they do have what I think is about the best team to make it happen. But for now it happens in the lampi on evey tune I play.
Lampi is right there with my msb but just more wholesome so its in great company .
I am waiting on a new item from lampi a B7 head dac. It's the B7 with a full blown amp inside one box. It also rolls and uses the same tubes and a driver tube to roll as well .
It has gone through a couple of revisions and is returning soon. The amp it has bested anything I had or have heard . Tubes when done right just rock !!!!!

Let me clear a few things out first though.
