DAC Opinions

I think I am leaning towards sticking with HQ Player and either staying with my DAC or going to a T+A, if it can work out. DSD512 is really enticing to me :)....

I'll try and talk you down. :)

From all I've read DSD128 -> DSD256 is the bigger jump in sound quality in comparison to DSD256 -> DSD512.

Thanks for the effort :D.... from everything I hear and read the T+A is supposed to be pretty darn good DSD, which is the main thing for me at this point...

I want to thank everyone for all of your input... I think the decision has been made. If all goes as planned I will be getting a T+A Dac8 DSD. Since DSD is what matters the most to me, and reading such incredible reviews and opinions on this machine, and with HQ Player, this sounds like a great unit for me!

Well Randy, It must be a done deal as I see you have it listed it in your gear. Keep us posted on your thoughts on your new DAC and congrats.

I've been sending DSD512 to my T+A DAC for about a year now...everything upsampled in the Roon DSP engine. It sounds absolutely killer! The Tannoy CanterburySE, Allnic tube integrated, and T+A combo is unreal. I'm listening to Cowboy Junkies, Trinity Sessions (from the SACD rip) right now....just incredible. It's the closest thing I've found to the musicality of really good vinyl on a really good turntable with a really good phono pre....for about 1/4 the price.
Enjoy!

Great choice, you won't be sorry. Once you hear it with 512 DSD you will be blown away. Congrats.

Looking forward to your impressions.

The T+A arrived. With a little configuring and playing around I have it working with HQPlayer at DSD512. I have tried some settings that cause stuttering, but where I settled in seems to work well and sounds pretty fantastic.

Our son is not using the second Nvidia card so I will eventually get it back. It is a GTX980. I assume I have to load up the Nvidia drivers.

Oh trust me I understand bills et al.. :) I haven't looked in awhile, but pretty sure one can get into one around that price, I could be mistaken though. Sorry if I missed any reference to that.

Good thing is there are a lot of choices and awesome products available! Hard to go wrong with any of the ones discussed here.
Interestin fibre setup you have there. I went with full Memory Player software suite in Win10 on a tricked out PC server. Also can dual boot to WinServer16 with AO. Running Jriver at the moment and will test out Roon/HQP soon.

All I can say is that my tweaks are da bomb. Filters on SSD, Ethernet isolaters, SLC drives , Multi-rail HDPLEX, OS isolation, powercut to USB, ...DELICIOUS!

BTW, whats your relationship to Switzerland?

Congrats, wait till it breaks in.

You will need to load the Nvidia drivers. Just download them from Nvidia. That 980 may or may not help, although it is worth a try. You may need to step up to a 1080 card. Unfortunately, the prices of graphics cards have almost tripled due to people buying them for mining Bit Coin.

Looking forward to reading your further impressions.

+1

mine arrived about a week ago and so far i have about 20 hrs on it. i have only been running lo-rez files compared to you - mainly CD quality PCM. however, at this point could not be happier with the sound.

for some reason i am thinking i got way dac more than i paid for... can't wait until it is broken in.

I run the T+A DAC8 DSD fed from an Aurender A10 into Musical Fidelity M8 amps and B&W 802D3's. Right now I am listening to Eleanor McEvoy Alone in 24/96 and the sound is just wonderfully clear and open. The DAC also sounds great with DSD files. Highly recommended and a great buy for the money!

Happy Easter break

I have been listening for a couple hours in the evenings after work since the T+A arrived.... so three days. It is very impressive so far. I am planning on giving it a good work out today while my wife is at work :)....

I have the server running with Roon as the controller, handing off to HQ Player to render the music and the T+A doing the conversion chores. I really like that they use their own custom 1 bit DSD converter!

Anyway, the T+A is displaying 24M6 now... yes that is 24.6 MHz, DSD512 with a base clock of 48.... dam, from what I have heard so far it is amazing analog sounding digital!

Randy,
Have you had a chance to run the T&A direct to your amps, bypassing the pre?
I am very interested to get yours and others opinion on this configuration.

I have not hooked it direct. I will never use it that way. I need three sets of outputs. However, at this point I think the DAC8 DSD is probably the biggest improvement in my system of any of the numerous components I have changed.
