DAC for Job amp

Hi watchdog
Thanks for the nice and informative post.
I read the article in your blog, very interesting. It is allways instructive to have all this feedback.
First of all : aesthetically I find the BMC very nice - and very well built - but not for my tastes. I like low profil designs in hifi, sometimes I like "ugly", but I have to recognize that everything has a lot of logic in that front panel.
At the moment I have budget limitations, but if I had decided for a better dac, I would prefer Sotm, or Auralic Vega... or Hex. I didn't make deep investigations about Antelope, but a friend of mine heard one and told me that it is very very musical.
I could be happy with BMC, I think, but I still am tempted by MyTek or... Anedio2. Anedio is selling for 1250 us dol, less than 1000 euros. Mytec has a very good Firewire and more options and I've been reading a lot of good comments from professionals and amateurs. It also has a good analogue vol control.
Anyway, if you hook up the Antelope Gold Dac I would be very pleased to read about your impressions, specially with the Job - just if you want to do it for your own curiosity. It is out of my wallet now.
I wait for the post about Job, coming in March I think.
Cheers!
The PureDac is a MUCH better choice than the Mytek and is very future proof. Price is very appealing and its IS low profile. The Antelope Gold and a Level 3 Lampizator (budget) can both have quality analog volume controls. Lampi uses a stepped resistor ladder with only 2 resistors ever in the signal path, but is TUBE output (not buffer) Dac.

Just the Mytek, but 2 good pals bought the Puredac and have described the differences.

Similar price, but for me the BMC is the no-brainer choice… Mytek as preamp is so-so.

Ok, but can you describe the sound of Mytek? Was it burned in?
Sorry to insist, but did your pals hear them both?
Thanks, I hope these are not annoying questions...

Mytek did not appear very smooth to me. Preamp not great.

Not sure if the others heard the Mytek, but possibl,y as its widely available.

You need to check for yourself.

The pro sound of Mytek may not please everybody. I have to check it myself.
I saw a sec hand Eximus DP-1 for 1500 euros. Not bad at all. One of the good things it has, is a good pre amp.
I think I will try this one afterall:rolleyes:. I'll contact the seller today. If I buy it I will make a post here.

I'm using an Eximus DP1. Sound is good not great but good. two quirks with the DP1. You have to choose a source eveytime.I know I could change my IC to be position 1. That means buying another cord I don't own and no balance control.

Hi Polaron,

Over the weekend, I've swapped out the PureDAC for the Antelope (powered by a Paul Hynes PSU).

The Antelope may not be ideal for some because the analog stage moves in 4 db steps until it hits -32 db, where each stop is 1db. I found this to be too coarse for me, but this would of course be dependent on the speaker load in question. A person with very efficient loads like a horn loaded speaker would almost certainly have issues while someone with inefficient speakers like the KEF LS50 would not (I have a pair on hand and have verified this).

The Antelope has a bigger, more powerful and very dynamic sound. If you like more "jump" in your music, the Antelope would be just your cup of tea with the Job. The PureDAC is a more polite, and laidback performer. The Antelope has better extension at both frequency extremes and is also slightly more resolving in microdetail. I could easily live with both.

Hi watchdog!
I have jordan drivers, but one of these days I'll move to Audionirvana, very high sensivity.
How much costs the Antelope?
I am in another thread and someone suggested the Lumin. You must know it, I think everybody knows it in this thred.
