I just talked to an engineer who thinks that's not impossible, although I've not read any user doing this. However, different batteries sound different (due to different types of noise), it is debatable whether the best sounding battery is better than the best LPS you can buy, and the need to charge batteries may be inconvenient.
I have tested D1 with 12V 7Ah Pb battery(from my security system :happy.
I was curious if it works at all and for how long it can play on battery.
So, it worked fine and at least for several hours, before I switched it off.
As D1 was not mine I had no time to perform extensive SQ test, but it sounded different than with original PSU.
So if you have a right 12V battery, peace of cable, right connector and soldering station you can try it by your self.
Hello - We had the same idea with pre-amps and other electronics to get them off of the AC power grid. We contacted Vinnie Rossi, because his old company Red Wine audio made some battery packs. However, after talking with Vinnie we learned they have a much better mouse-trap using Ultra (or Super) Capacitors. The benefit compared to rechargeable lithium batteries is they can be recharged very quickly and they can be charged millions of times vs a few thousand times. In the VR Mini Power Supply there are two banks of ultra-capacitors one is used and the other is being charged. When one bank gets low it instantly flips the process to the other bank.
So far on our David Berning Pre One and Linear Tube Audio Micro ZOTL 2 the results are fantastic! Much better noise-floor. We have briefly tested with the LUMIN D1 and it works great...but would need to test further to compare the sonics to the SBooster or other Linear Power Supply.
