Local distributor is going to bring in this turntable in a few weeks time.

Cant wait to see/hear what's the "commotion" about. When I go to their website, nothing much except a long, long write up on the who's who involved in the creation? of this turntable. Certainly not cheap (what is these days when talking about hi-end stuff?) running into US$40k (don't know the discount factor).

I've heard the Muse 3C (lower price point) and am impressed by the looks and the "twin" (or rather 2 way/type driving the turntable).

Will share more when had the chance to audition this new player :D

It looks pretty impressive in the flesh

It is pretty cool looking ... I have seen it at the various stages of build at the Thrax factory. It has the integrated Minus-K platform built it.

It the development continues like this, people will need two audio rooms on the future - one just to house their massive record players... [emoji3].

The Döhmann Helix 1 is actually pretty compact. Especially if you factor in the inbuilt minus-k platform.

Agree. Its about the size of a VPI HRX. not too large at all.

I should have taken a picture of it next to the Giant Acoustical Systems table - damn tiny compared to that :)

At least it is compact in the vertical position - imagine how big the HRX would get on the Minus-K paltform.

It's a question of perspective and personal preference.

I was told about this a few years ago & have been eagerly awaitng....

So what is so special about this new arm design:

Magnetically centered and pre-loaded ceramic hybrid bearings: no bearing chatter, lateral movement damped by eddy currents, extremely low bearing stiction/friction

Symmetrical mass distribution: external exitation does not cause any cantilever deflection ; no change in VTF when altering VTA
Bearing for vertical movement on or near the same plane as record: no warp wow

Wiring harness with super low capacitance(30pf without, 50pf with shield), symmetrical layout(shield is kept separate from the conductors

Multi-layer armwand (CF, Phenolic, PTFE), combining extreme torsional and bending stiffness with very high internal damping: No discernible sonic fingerprint, maximum resolution of detail and dynamic shading

I had a listen to this turntable and liked the Minus-K platform idea so much
I have ordered a Minus-K platform. This will be ideal turntable for the Japanese market given there seismic activity..
Stump

With most TT center of gravity off centre , would leveling it on a spring based platform like Minus K be problematic ? I have seen Helix v springy suspension making catridge set up not as easy as u would like it to be .

I have a Clearaudio Master Solution sitting on a Minus K and haven't had major issues balancing it. In audio applications they usually set the rubber dampers under the top plate further apart so it's easier to balance.
