LOL. Wait until he actually hears it! I'm planning on buying a pair and running them in mono. I love the VAC tube sound.

Talk to John at Audio Salon. He's a dealer and has heard them all. I think the 160i or phi200 are the sweet spot.

btw - where do I sign up to be first in line for when Mike sells the ones he's going to buy. :) Oh and silver would be best.

Bob, I've been lusting after these for a while !! Mike says they sound great, I really want to hear tube amps on my Salon 2's !!
 
Relax Fellas. Although I would love to have a VAC amp, I don't see one in my future(too much $$$$).

The only way I'd get to hear the phi 200 is to travel to Sarasota and listen to yours when you get them.

Not for me! I've heard the VAC in my house and it was the best tube amp experience ever. Full, rich, fast, fast/punchy bass, detailed with just the right amount of midrange bloom and damn it, soooooo musical. VAC (the company) is also 5 minutes from my house. One caveat: I'm not as impressed with the VAC preamps as I am with the amps.

I'm sure the Rogers is a great amp and I like its power rating. I would love to hear it. But I've heard many people haul out there "VAC killers" - and the VAC squashed them all. Wasn't close. I spoke to a few tube manufacturers at RMAF....I found it funny when they said "we tried to get our amp to sound as close to VAC as possible." Ha!

Kevin at VAC has a great ear. He voices every piece that leaves the shop. They don't spend a lot of money on marketing, they don't have 10,000 dealers, they aren't sold in BestBuy, but if someone is looking for a terrific sounding tube amp, hand built by a master craftsman with years and years of experience - VAC is it.

YMMV.
