Peter, I mentioned in another thread the idea of Lumin offering a supported upgrade path for L1 storage, wondering if you saw that.

Also another idea.... some high-end manufacturers seem to like the idea -- and in theory it looks good to me also -- if having a storage device with both a LAN interface as well as a dedicated Player/streamer interface (Ethernet). I take it the idea is to further isolate the player from the rest of the home network. This would be an interesting feature on the L1. What do you think?

Yes, that is an interesting feature but it is not the direction we believe in at this point in time. (On the other hand, never say never.)

My concern is that the controller inside the storage device emits EMI - this may be why people who use a PC to play audio found that different brands of HDD / SDD sound different despite the bit perfect nature. If it's a HDD, it also causes vibration. In addition, storage devices very often have shorter life time than other electronics. Putting that inside a player also means increased possibility of down time for music playback.

Having said that, I acknowledge that there are advantages for having storage inside the streamer, and there are successful products using this design as well. So different designs imply different trade offs.

Peter, sorry, that’s actually not what I meant. I agree completely with not having storage inside the player/streamer it’s one of the reasons I chose the u1 in fact.

what I was trying to say was to add a second Ethernet interface to the L1, for a direct connection to the u1/s1.

sorry for not being clear

This feature has merits as well. To support that it requires a hardware redesign.
