Saw this on Magico Facebook page.

Those look like amplifier modules.

A powered Magico speaker or Magico branded amplifier.

Oh cool. The new owners have very deep pockets and a real determination for domination. This is definitely an interesting new segment. Will we see more of this?

In the high end I think so.

Active speakers aren't a new thing in pro audio but, we will see if this catches on at these price levels.

Many want high quality but, don't want to be bothered with cables, mix and matching components plus hanging out on audio forums :-)

*If the Magico pic is indeed an active speaker.

Then the ball is in Wilson's corner :-)

I cannot see why the top dogs do not implement powered active crossover speakers. Much better control of the overall frequency response and even better phase response and alignment. I think Gryphon made a flagship speaker that was powered and active crossover.

Reportedly, all new Avantgarde’s will have active/passive switch. Use your own amps or the ones built in.

I’m scratching my head because Estelon, Goldmund and others tried this a few years ago and they were flops. People love to mix and match gear.

Better sound is not always the end game goal Mike. You should know this. :D

It might just be a new design hybrid standalone stereo amplifier that you can use with whatever speaker you want.

Beat me to it.

The appeal for me after too many times of bringing home my dream speakers only to find out if I want the sound that attracted me to them is I have to buy the $40k worth of electronics. Active/dsp makes the cost of entry known. Honestly, unless magico and wilson both go fully active at the same time I don't see it catching on.

I would think there must be some call for powered speakers for companies to prvide the product. YG and Magico are in a whole different arena than KEF LS50's though.

I could maybe be lured to a powered speaker, I'd at least want my DAC and possibly preamp separate still. I've heard great sound from ATC and Goldman in powered speakers.

I feel those of us who have been audiophiles like and remember the fun of swapping components in/out, the newer generation are more space conscious and haven't perhaps developed our idiosyncrasies. Could be they are more into these types of products.

I could imagine this would open the door for these companies to tune the speakers to the individuals listening rooms. At the Magico M9 level I would think this would be desirable. Just a thought.
