Greetings most knowledgeable lovers of music and audio gear! I would like to tap into your experience based opinions on this subject. I am currently using a Viola Labs Symphony amp (Class A/B) paired with a Shindo Vosne-Romanee and for the most part am quite happy with the results. But I would like to get more of the intoxicating midrange back that I had in my previous set up with out going back to tubes. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, Michael

I would add the Vitus SS-103 to your audition list. Vitus sounds natural/organic, has excellent control, a wide and deep soundstage, rich harmonics & smooth, tube-like midrange. The SS-103 is a bit more neutral/transparent than the older SS-102, but is on the warm side. Though rule of thumb: Vitus sounds best with Vitus. The SS-103 would be best matched with the SL-103 or MP-L201 for synergy.

See if you can set up an audition of the PS Audio BHK Signature 250, a hybrid amp with a tubed input stage and a SS output stage. It gives you some of the tube magic without a fully tubed amplifier. Another option would be the upper level Ayre amps.

I think answer is very simple. If you want the tube sounds just get the tube amp.

The Grandinote magnetosolid amps would also give you the tubey midrange w/o resorting to actual tubes. The amp architecture is adopted from tube designs, but it is still a SS amp.

I would have to say Vitus SS-103. It does everything that you're looking for....and more.

Sugden SPA-4 or MPA-4 would also be great options.

And perhaps even the Sapphire FBA800 (but not the same power output as the other 2).

You might want to try an Ayre. They work very well.

Totally agree. I heard a pair of Ayre Flagship monos driving magico s5 mkii. First time I heard them with a liquid textured midrange. I would buy these if I didn't have my Luxman m800a class A amps.

I'm totally in love with the Ayre sound on my M3's. M3's with Ayre would really appeal to many people. Liquid, smooth, fatigue free sound. Liquid and meaty sounding with great bass and an uncanny ability to smooth out sibilance and make some of the nasty digital recordings sound listenable and the great ones, even better. There is no doubt the JFET's give you tube like qualities.

But I can also appreciate the magical things Vitus and Soulution do too. Soulution is like the Bugatti Veyron of amps. Wickedly fast and seductive in its sweetness, speed and control. Vitus is fast, rich, organic with glorious mids and textured bass and one amp that truly isn't lacking in any area - except small footprint!

Great to have such wonderful choices.

I haven't heard Vitus, I was going to suggest one of the Pass .8 Class A but see you have both, how do the compare, or differ?

Big thanks to all for your input! Has anyone heard Raidho paired with Pass XS150's?

Yes. I tried my XS150's with my D3 v2's. I was not a big fan of the pairing to be honest. I liked VAC, Soulution, Accuphase, Rowland and believe it or not, the little JOB225 with the Raidho D3 v2's.
