Chord announces stand alone M Scaler for any DAC

IS this the Million TAP device Watts has been talking about for a while. I know the Chord Blu Mk.2 CD transport has 1 million TAPS but list for $11k

Yes. There’s been talk of this for a long time.

Hmmm.... I think I shall stay with HQPlayer upsampling everything to DSD512/48, so instead of upscaling CDs 16x (705.6KHz) I will continue to get 24.6MHz. My T+A already has FIR filtering plus it can handle the 24.6MHz signal just fine :).

The upscaler is only meant to bring in the 1M taps filtering, once the signal reaches the DAC it will further be upsampled to 5bit/105MHz rate by the DAC, which is the rate the Chord DACs work at, many orders of magnitude higher than DSD512.

Since the output sample rate of the M Scaler is selectable it could be used with any DAC by selecting the maximum sample rate that the DAC accepts.

This looks like what Dave owners have been asking for, the function of Blu2 w/o the CD section and lower cost. I ordered a Blu2 on March 15th and it was finally shipped to me two days ago. It will have been an 18 week wait.

A TT2 paired with the new device will deliver at less than half the price of Blu2/Dave not counting the cost of stands. There might be other savings as well. The BLu2 generates a lot of noise that's transferred to the Dave's ground plane over the shields of the two coax cables connecting them. If the new device eliminates that problem, it will eliminate the need for ferrite's on the coax cables.

I expect the new device can be used with a Hugo2 which saves even more money.

There goes the resale value of my new Blu2.

Since DSD is true 1 bit, and since T+A uses their own custom true 1 bit converter.... 5 bit does not seem logical other than saying, see we do 5 times that.... I will stick with the German company that is known for quality and does not play games. Probably one of the reasons HQPlayer gives them their number one recommendation.

That kind of sticks... Why not send it back for the new device?

I wish you had talked to me.

I’ve already invested in a stand and Coax cables and I have a Dave which deserves the Blu2.
Besides, I expect there will be a long wait for the new device and I’ve already spent several months waiting for the Blu2.

Probably one of the reasons HQPlayer gives them their number one recommendation.

The only reason why HQP gives them their number one recommendation is only because Miska can sell more license. The computer audiophile website is flooded with dsd512 upsampling for T+A where Miska is very active.

Rob from Chord hates DSD. If you like DSD, Chord is not for you. M Scaler will upsample anything from DSD to PCM.

Rob has over 20years of DAC design experience. He is a well respected figure.

But like life, there is no one universal thing appeals to everyone.

The only thing I’m interested is the shootout between Select II and M Scaler/DAVE despite the large price differential. Maybe Mike can organise one.
