Hehe... not me... I sold a ton of Bose back in the day because average home listeners loved them and they never broke. I, on the other hand, would never own a pair. They were just not my cup of tea. After I got my first pair of KEFs (104aB's) I never turned back.

The 901's are loved by their fans, this is definitely true.

Sorry, was reading both threads this morning, and got confused when replying here. More coffee needed.
 
I had several pairs of 901s that I got, played with and then sold onward. They are interesting and fun if setup properly. My room does allow for proper setup. Had no trouble selling all 3 pairs quickly since there are still a lot of enthusiasts or nostalgic listeners.
 
I know there's a lot of hate for Bose, that's nothing new. But for what they are and their intended purpose in this system, I like them just fine. As I said, they definitely aren't replacing my Maggies, but they're fun and enjoyable all the same.
 
Just threw in a JungSon JA-1 preamp. Quite the solid unit.

I could tell the top end was rolled off with then 901vI, but bass was so commanding, and like I stated, it did take months to figure the placement out, but bass was so commanding and mids so well blended that had a neighbor hadn't introduced me to 'true hifi' when I was flush I'd probably still be jamming my 70's and 80's rock to them happily living in a time loop the six figures spent upgrading from that $1500 system spent on other foolishness.

It's odd that people say the top end is rolled off. To me, these 901's have plenty of top end. Granted, not that extreme top end sparkle like a really good dome or planar tweeter, but they're definitely not lacking treble by any means.

I might have said it before, I have the EQ set flat, and the ONLY thing I can nit-pick is that the midrange isn't as full as my Maggies. Then again, that's one of the things Maggies are known for. As for other bookshelves and floor standers I've tried in my system recently, the 901's are pretty much on level ground compared to them, except the 901's have substantial bass detail and extension over the others, even the floor standers.

Steve, WRT the crossover points, I think you're right. I can tweak it a little here and there, but don't think there will be much to gain. It won't hurt to try though. ;)

Hey, Good Evening...! I am totally new here but not new to audiophile gear and listening at all. What brand speakers were those on the stands? I really like their look -I have been running Martin Logans for years...so, I am just now trying out different box speaker designs such as my Klipsch bookshelf speakers at have as part of smaller upstairs system.
 
Just replaced the stock Bose Series VI EQ for the 901s with my dbx DriveRack Venu360. Dialed in a quick and dirty rough version of the stock Series V EQ curve, and wow! What a drastic improvement over the stock Bose EQ with this literal 10 minute tuning via PEQ. I have barely scratched the surface with this obviously. When I get more time, I'll do more tweaking in the 8 band PEQ as well as the 31 band GEQ. I'll also try out the AutoEQ (basically room correction) via the included RTA mic. More to come!

Hi Randy!

This is just a small system in the master bedroom. My main rig is still kickin' in the living room with vinyl and tape.

I have to say though, after replacing the Bose EQ with the dbx Venu360, I was up until 1:30am listening to music knowing darn well I had to be up at 5am to go to work. LOL
 
I loved when I used to have a night like that, but hated the next morning :). Not worried about it now. I can stay up whenever I feel like it, or not. Retirement is great!!!

DBX made some very fine products in their day. I had won a 3BX and a couple the the record decoders for DBX albums back in the day when I sold them.

The DBX Drive Racks are an excellent ,reasonably priced option for multi-amping, PEQ, etc. You might entertain adding a super tweeter,....an excellent possibility with the 901's might be an ESS Heil AMT....it's dipole nature would be somewhat similar to your 901,'s....

They love power and EQ’ing them correctly will require tons of it ..
