choosing the right synology

And my "arguments" were never about the amount of space. I mean, yes and no.

A Synology just seems like a pretty "sophisticated" machine...at the appropriate price; for what I thought the OP was looking to do.

I suggested the 2-bay WD MyCloud; which has a good UI, minimal overhead...and can easily and inexpensively hold 8T. Even with RAID, I thought that would save some dough.

But Synology is cool, so go for it.
 
I am looking at building a NAS with tolerating up to 3 drive failures. More drives, along with a UPS and mirrored boot drive and backups, are cheap insurance against losing data. I guess I'm a little paranoid.
