...it's too bad he wasn't recognized as much for his guitar abilities. Man he makes his Tele sing on this group rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps:

He comes in around 3:28 but check out the whole thing. It's a nice version with Tom Petty among others singing the vocals.

I am in awe of these guys. I am 3-4 months into teaching myself the guitar and now that I have an inkling of what it takes to be anywhere near as good as these guys (which I will never even be 1% as good), it boggles my mind.

And I hear you about it not being all about solos. Actually rhythm guitar is pretty damn hard. Also it's not all about what the left hand is doing (which is where I used to focus when watching guitar players) whether it's soloing or playing chords. A lot of the feel and emotion is all in the right hand, the timing, the strumming pattern, the picking patterns, Palm muting, and the dynamics used for all of the above.

I wish I had started as a preteen. Learning this at my age is cumbersome and takes way longer but I'm going to stick with it.

Anyway, gotta buy me some more Prince albums.

I always like his playing and really wish he would have pursued a career in Playing Guitar rather than all the goofy Theatrics he chose instead.

Seen it many times and still like it again and again.

The only thing I wonder is whether the guitar he threw behind his back hit anyone - in that band it could have caused expensive casualties.
