Guys,

To put some life in the forum (either my "refresh function" cheats or there's been little going on here recently), let me ask you about your favorite CDs to listen to, which give you a sensation of really experiencing the Awesomeness of your McIntosh gear.

One of my all time favorites (on all previous systems as well) is Nick Cave's "the boatman's call". I own a Japanese remastered pressing in which the sound is ultra tight, vocal line is rich and fluid and the instruments have clarity you can almost touch.

What's on your list?

Happy listening!

CDs and awesomeness-I best stay out of this thread. :disbelief:

Why make things easy? I bet there are CDs which can push the bar and play astonishingly well.

I don't plan on owning a turntable and own no LPs at this time. Hence I'm not asking about those. For now, at least... :)

You didn't when you asked for CDs and awesomeness. You set the bar very high.

There must be some CDs worth listening to, aren't there?

I only listen to classical music, and this is one of my favorites: it has some of the most realistic piano sound that I have heard:

It's a multi-channel SACD that sounds awesome in stereo or surround.

Indeed - recording and mastering trump format.

To name a few RBCD's in my collection with VG SQ:
Joe Jackson: Body & Soul
Marianne Faithfull: Blazing Away
Willie Nelson: Stardust
Flim & the BB's: Tricycle

Furthermore many classical RBCD's have excellent recording quality.

However I do have to add
all things being equal, and while I have no experience with LP SQ because of the hassle, I do prefer the extended SQ of high resolution particularly in the form of SACD because I prefer physical media.

Hi:

For "HiFi comparisons/testings" I use Tracy Chapman first CD, and Pink Floyd "Wish you were her", "The wall" and some Chesky Records compilations - I use these not for absolute sound quality, but because I know them well :-)

The classical recordings, which I listen most, I choose exclusively by the interpreters and not sound quality,... so some pretty average (old) recordings there ;-)
