The CD format is obviously not “perfect” but it’s not dead either. While many write off Compact Discs as an anachronistic poor sound quality physical format that is merely days – if not hours – away from vanishing forever from the musical media landscape, I believe that it is probably too soon to write the epitaph for the Compact Disc. Wikipedia reckons more than 200 billion discs have been sold globally and there obviously not all be used for coffee coasters.
According to RIAA stats for year ending 2017, digital downloads fell to $1.3 billion revenue, whereas physical media (CD, LP) while also falling, was $1.5 billion. The elephant in the room is steaming which courtesy of subscriptions now accounts for nearly 2/3rds of all revenue.
Many out there, myself included, still don’t think we stilling getting the best we can from the format and locally I have friends who still prefer the old CD over streaming and digital downloads.
I never get sound from any videos posted on AS.
I still buy CD's, ( and LP's) why not own your music instead renting it, rip away
Chris.......Same here. I ordered three CD's this morning from Amazon. I enjoy all of my source components. That includes my CD player in the living room system and my CD/SACD player in the studio system. Even though I rip all of my CD's to the Aurender N10 and N100H music servers I still enjoy spinning CD's from time to time. I just spun Fiona Joy Hawkins in the Simaudio MOON 260D transport this morning while I enjoyed my coffee and pastry.
Correct, can’t view within the site. Exit to YouTube.

Sometimes I have the same problem. When that happens I toggle the vibrate/volume switch on my iPhone and it fixes the problem.
There is nothing wrong with CDs as a medium. As the fellow in the video points out, they just work.
After ripping all my CDs to my server and now that I subscribe to music services (Tidal, Spotify, Amazon) I see no need to purchase physical CDs anymore.
That because I can stream and play music (Tidal, Roon, HQP) that sounds better than the same music played from a physical CD via a CD player.
... see if my DB Poweramp will rip native flac 24/192...
I'm viewing over my computer, not my iPhone.
Really? Are you connecting the analog outputs of your CD player straight into your preamp or are you going from the digital output from the CD player into the same DAC you are using for streaming music?
So am I... my Windows laptop. When I click the link it opens another tab and then runs the video which sound just fine. I don't have to do anything but click the link and all works perfect.
