Anyone know anything about the Carver Crimson 275? I’m consider trading up a Jolida JD10000RC with a new pre. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the Carver I heard was the 350. If the 275 is same technology, it's impressive. Not only did the 350 sound very good, it ran so cool the rep could grab the output tubes with his hand. You should know if the 275 & 350 are same series by the warranty on the tubes, one of the longest in the industry due to keeping them cool.

The 350 just sounded like a good amp, it didn't strike meas obviously tube or solid state. To me that's a high mark for an amp. Adjectives like, effortless, transparent, good frequency response without anything bringing attention to any one area.

Welcome

We bought ourselves a Carver Crimson 275 as our Christmas present this year. Clear clean sound with our Tekton Design Pendragons. The Carver is a no brainer--5 year warranty, you don't have to set the bias, and you don't have to worry about having to have this set of tubes as opposed to that set of tubes because it is so tolerant. It's about as plug as play as a receiver. I can't put up my e-mail yet because the website won't let me so reply to this post and I'll answer any questions you might have.

Welcome

I am also curios about this amp. I have Magnepan 1.7i loudspeakers which are kinda hungry. So I was wondering how well this amp will power my Maggies. I currently am powering them with an ancient Parasound HCA2200, but I love what my Aric Audio tube preamp has done for my system.

BTW: Yes this is the same series as the 350. The 350 being almost 5 times as powerful at 350wpc and sporting a total of 12 KT120's to the 275's 4. The 350's are mono blocks costing $9500/pair whereas the 275 is a stereo amp at $2750.

Can one roll tube types with the Carver like say a PrimaLuna?

Yes you can always roll tubes, but you may want to leave the stock KT120 output tubes alone and roll the 2 12AX7s and the 12AT7 tubes, they probably have a large influence on the sound.

Welcome to the forum all. I was impressed with the Carver at the 2019 Florida Audio Expo. It was driving KEF Blades.

EJ of W4S has a new company Glass Audio which has licensed some new designs from Bob, can't wait to see what they produce.

Did you ever hear anything more on the new W4S preamp that never seems to make it's way to market after being shown at several shows.

No Jack, I haven't heard anything about that preamp, nor his IceEdge 1200AS amp and modular speakers he showed at RMAF. He is so busy with OEM work and his new project Glass Audio where he will be building new tube kit under license from Bob Carver, W4S may be on the back burner.

The Aura is supposed to be ready for release soon according to EJ. I played around with the prototype a while back. Really loved the new design.

Pssst, a little birdie told me that W4S manufactures all Carver equipment.

EJ really likes the 700 module and does have his latest amps using it. He has not been happy with the 1200 modules; he said they are proving to be noisy and B&O has been trying various things to remedy. He said he has been sitting on a fairly large supply of them waiting for a resolve.

Good to hear about the Aura finally coming to market and not surprised about the Carver gear. Don't understand the noise issue with the 1200as modules as the amp I have with them is dead quiet. If he is trying to add a buffer to the front end then that may be a problem though.

I could not answer the technical stuff. EJ is the design genius not me :). He has said that he has been working with B&O to resolve the issue. I do know he has used their amp modules for a long time and is very familiar with them.

W4S certainly build their own gear, but they also build a lot of stuff for other companies. Some of the names may surprise people. He told me they had a great year and have actually expanded their facilities. He has also started construction on a brand new facility. They added another machine that populated circuit boards (couldn't tell you what they are called, but cool as hell watching them work, and expensive as hell).

UPDATE:
Glass Audio, established in early 2020, is a holding company owned by EJ Sarmento and me, Frank Malitz, former co-founder and CEO of The Bob Carver Company. We immediately formed and acquired the Bob Carver Corporation as our first brand. Bob Carver, no longer a principal, remains as our chief desgner and inspiration. All product will be built and assembled by hand in our CA factory. The warranty remains at five years including tubes, on the units employing circuit boards and ten years, including tubes, on point to point wired models. We are covering all warranties on units manufactured in Washington State by the now closed Bob Carver Company pursuant to the conditions currently specified in the Bob Carver Corp. warranty policy. We have discontinued the Amazing Line Source Louspeaker due to excessive production costs as of July 1st, 2020. The ALS warranty remains active pursuant to the conditions stated above.

As always, I'm available seven days a week for questions, support and guidance at my personal phone number of 847-668-4519. Peace, health and harmony.
