Cables for new - dCS - Gryphon - Magico - system

In post #5 above I recommended to use The Cable Company's loaner program. As Lucidear indicated you are in Europe and the loaner program does not apply, sorry about my misinformation. What I would do before pulling the trigger on cables is I would use any speaker cable just to hook them up, even zip cord. This would give an idea of how your system interacts with your room and your preferences. I tend to prefer Cardas with most metal dome tweeters. Good luck.

You are making a very good point. I think I will do just that

Op

If you look at audio-markt.de, there are dealers selling used cables there.
There is one in Holland who seems to offer a ton of different brands of cables, maybe you can contact them and make an arrangement to get a cable they recommend, and if you don’t like it exchange it for other ones...
I have never dealt with them so please don’t take this as a recommendation, just an idea...

Thanks for the info, I will look into it

I know for a fact Synergistic Research voices their products with Magico speakers. And also, whenever demoed at audio shows, Synergistic Research runs their demos and set up. All Synergistic cabling. Just putting this out here, for whatever is worth

My understanding is that good cables do two things.
They shield/eliminate noise and improve signal transmission, possibly over the full range of frequencies.
That goes from power cables to digital cables. What we're essentially fighting is noise and signal distortion.

However since our components are not perfect, cables are here for fine tuning.

In my case, I have to find the fine line between transparent / clean and too lean / harsh.
I'm only listening to digital. I will work on both power and network to clean as much as I can.

Now the magico speakers are very lean, I iniatially wanted to go for the Gryphon essence but I ended up thinking the essence might be too transparent for these speakers. I kind of wanted more margin for error and something more easily enjoyable.
Both the Bartok and the Diablo have very dense and meat around the bones kind of sound yet find the right balance between density and definition.
I didn't want to go for a full "HIFI" system to listen only to women voices and flutes, hence my choice.

I wanted an easy system but that could still deliver the goods when I needed to within the boundaries of my room.

Now back to the cables. I'm scared to put too transparent cables that would bring too lean or brittle of a sound yet I still want to extract the full potential of my system.

I will probably follow up the advice of stereogeek to just start up the system with any cables and take it from there.
I've only heard the diablo and the A3 but not together so it seems like a good idea to just plug it all together and work my way from there.

Sometimes we are guilty of being too impatient.

Anyone here with experience with either shunyata or siltech?
These are two brands for which I am in contact with distributors and are accessible to me.

I love your amplifier, this was also a strong contender for me.
Whats your experience with shunyata cables? how would you describe their signature and improvements?

Thanks.

I love Shunyata with my equipment. It is a very good match. It smoothens a bit the sound of my equipment, that otherwise may qualify a bit "hot", but without losing any resolution. Shunyata also has a very distinctive "organic", or "full" kinda sound that I like. Some may call it "dark", but it is not what I hear. Again, some cables may sound good for some speakers or gear, but not with others. Personal tastes are also different for different people. So unfortunately, you will have to try for yourself, with your gear. There is no other way. Unless you know someone that has the exact (or similar) gear like you, and same tastes like you.

What speaker cables do you have? The alpha V2? Which PC did you use with your amp? an NR or XC?

Speaker cables and XLR Interconnects: Alpha v2
Power cord on integrated amp as well as on my DAC: Sigma NR v2
Omega XC now on the Everest
Alpha NR v2 power cord on my transport

very nice . So you would say that these cables provide a smooth and relaxed listening experience because they're good for noise shielding and also provide an organic sound? That's what I'm trying to achieve because I'm listening digital and I believe the Magico's to be unforgiving, especially since I'm sensitive with high's.
I will try to see if I can demo a set but I don't think it will be possible.

Smooth, relaxed, pleasing, not fatiguing, natural sounding, whatever you want to call it. Bottom line is I like where I am at now. And I am digital only too. No analog setup.

Thanks for your feedback
Why did you feel you had to go to the sigma instead of alpha for the PC?

I started with Alpha. Then I got an unexplainable itch (;) then I decided to try the Sigma. I was immediately "sold". I wish I did not try the Sigma, it would have saved me some dough :yahoo1:

Hi Guys,

I finally decided to go for the Siltech 770L loom and spx800 power cables.
I was between these and the shunyata alpha v2, but since I'm in Europe, the Shunyata would have ended up being much more expensive while I'm not sure the performance spread (if any) would justify it.
From what I could gather, Siltech is also very organic and natural sounding, while being fast and extended.
Let's see, I should get everything end of this week.
Thanks for anyone who chimed in! I'll report when I have everything set up

I'm glad you found cables to bring your system together. I think once you get things up and running. Cables will be the last thing you will think about for sometime. The system should bring you a lot of enjoyment. Cables can alway be changed out of a system over time. Just sit back and enjoy.
