I presume Qobuz Connect is merely a control app that is used to find and play music from Qobuz. Presumably Spotify has its own control app and likewise Apple Music. Doesn't your streamer have a single control app that can access all these platforms - and Tidal, Amazon Music and lots more?
If your streamer's app could access all these platforms, wouldn't that be a better solution than abandoning Qobuz? BluOS-controlled streamers offer this ability as does any streamer that can work with Room, although the latter requires extra hardware and a subscription.
I use BluOS to control my streamer and this can access all these streaming services, plus my own ripped CD library, the world's radio stations and other sources such as Radio Paradise and Calm Radio. All with a single app that also adjusts volume without resorting to any other hardware or software. I'm sure there are other comprehensive apps that can do all of this.
Qobuz Connect works similarly to Spotify Connect. In both cases, the process is essentially the same:
- You open the app on your phone or tablet.
- You select the music you want to play.
- Playback is then handed off to the streamer itself. You can turn off your phone or tablet, and the music continues uninterrupted.
In this setup, the streamer communicates directly with Spotify or Qobuz, allowing playback at the maximum resolution supported by the service and the device.
Apple Music works differently. With Apple Music, playback is initiated on your phone or tablet and sent to the streamer via AirPlay. Your device must remain on and within range, since it is acting as the source. In addition, the audio resolution is limited to whatever AirPlay supports (it is lower than CD quality).
I’m using a WiiM streamer, which can directly access services such as Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, YouTube Music, and others; it connects to those services at full resolution. It also supports internet radio platforms like Radio Paradise and TuneIn. Wiim can control the volume as well. The WiiM app even allows you to add room correction filters and EQ to whatever you are listening to. It is quite impressive actually.
I do have Apple Music as part of a broader Apple bundle. However, WiiM does not support direct Apple Music integration (this is an Apple decision, not a WiiM limitation), and Apple Music also does not integrate with Roon. My primary music service is Spotify.
