BUC-1 USB Converter

I just plugged a buc-1 into my system. Wow!!!

What an improvement from the toslink out of my iMac! My question is what usb cable have people had success with for the best sound quality? I know it should be approx 4 ft to reduce reflections…Just wanted to commend bryston this was a major improvement for me…I felt the price was fair for the unit and I went for it. I run this into a bda-1 dac. The rest of the system is an audio research ls27 into 2 arc d400mkii's in mono to dynaudio contour s1.4.

I really enjoy the hobby and the sound keeps getting better! Thanks for your suggestions in advance….

Hi Folks,

I thought that my system sounded quite good playing directly to my PS Audio DAC either from my laptop via a direct ethernet connection or the BDP-1.

When I inserted the BUC-1 between the laptop and DAC I was astounded as to the improvement in the sound quality. It became more tranparent with a wider soundstage, instruments sounding more natural and generally a more precise presentation.

Hi James,

Here's a comment from a freshly happy french BUC1 customer: comment sent to our "certified dealer" in Paris, Mr. Jorge, LINK HD ...:-)

"A few months ago, I decided to venture into digital music. I undertook market research and found the Bryston BUC1.

The product was not yet on the market, but the technical specifications and the price were very interesting and encouraged me to order one. Once received, I immediately connected (no brain) and let it run for 24 hours before listening. Listening recordings at red -book format are perfect. Differences in the quality of the recordings are clearly audible, and when the recording is good, this is really good!

But most surprising is coming up with the master’s formats, the BUC1 is breathtaking. I downloaded Ella Fitzgerald Sings George and Ira Gershwin Song Book (24 /192) and the last Pat Metheny Unity (24/ 96) the listening is just beautiful: soft, detailed, warm and accurate.

The Bryston BUC 1 is a device which performs its role: it is the perfect interface between a PC and a DAC. Without no doubt absolutely recommendable."

Hi Folks,

We have a very in depth review coming out on the Bryston BUC-1 USB Interface.

As a sneak peak here is a short excerpt:

After 4 days of running tests for the Bryston BUC-1 I have the test results, and they are really something.

At 24/96 sampling, THD+N at 1 kHz was 0.00002%, which is below any digital product I have ever tested.

The clocking procedure is superb. I think consumer who already have a DAC with an asynchronous USB input might want to put the BUC-1 in the signal chain, with the computer output to the BUC-1 and the BUC-1 to their DAC., and yes, the sound is great!

Hi Folks,

Sneak peak from Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity Magazine on the Bryston BUC-1 USB Converter.

BUC 1.jpg

The music played from my computer through this setup really sounded spectacular.

Digital analysis of the test tones passing through the BUC-1 showed a digital noise floor of – 180 dB and distortion below the range measurement capability of my Audio Precision instrument, indicating that the bitstream from the computer was perfect as it exited the BUC-1.

Full review coming soon!
