Bryston BOT-1 (Bryston Optical Transport)

I have a friend who is looking for a new spinner to feed his Berkeley Audio Dac. He is using a BelCanto CD2 via XLR AES and is looking for a better alternative.

Will this work with other DACs?

Hi

It can be made to work with other DAC's but it is a bit more complicated from the software side.

What is an "Optical Transport"? A CD player minus the DAC? Why would it be coupled to a specific external DAC, versus using a standard interface? That would seem to limit its market.

I believe the primary goal of the BOT-1 is cd-ripping to the BDP and as a cd transport. An upgrade in the future may include sacd ripping to the BDP. This is just me.

Hi

Yes it will be dedicated (to the BDP-2) and uses the SATA input and allows you to rip CD's to the attached or internal drive on the BDP2. You can also just listen to the CD through the buffer memory in the BDP-2.

James,

I'm very interested in this piece. I'm loving the BDP-2. This would make the whole process of ripping and managing music easier.

Keep us posted!

James, one quick question. With the BOT1 connected to the BDP2, if I have 2 external hard drives connected on the BDP2 and I start ripping with the BOT1. Would the BOT1 rip music to both external hard drives at the same time? This would be nice for easy music backup if this would be the case.

Not sure on that but I think it would be doable as it would be a software issue.
