SUBJECT: Bryston BIT (Bryston Isolation Transformer)

March 2015,

Hi Folks,

Due to the popularity of our Bryston BIT isolation transformer products we are expanding our lineup to include more models. Currently the models being offered are the BIT-5, BIT-15, and BIT-20 in 17 inch wide faceplates.

Hi James

Got my BIT 20 AVR this morning.

I put it on the bathroom scales and they read 89lbs.

I've attached a couple of pictures of the unit.

I'd like to add too that I like the updated design. I had actually preferred the design of the Torus AVR (the faceplate and the little voltage in/out window) but regardless of that I wanted to get the unit from Bryston. So, the fact that the two designs have come together like this is really great.

I wrestled the unit into the cabinet but won't get to start listening to it until perhaps tonight. In a week or so I'll send you a note with my impressions. I'm really excited about it though.

I hope this finds you well. I wanted to let you know my impression of the Bryston BIT AVR 20: it is awesome!

A few comments after listening to the piece for about a week:

1. I really like the new faceplate and am glad you guys added the voltage and amperage display. I had seen the Torus AVR 20 and liked that feature, but that alone was not enough to dissuade me from wanting a Bryston branded piece. I like the blank lettering of the “Bryston” name on the faceplate. It is subtle and suits my taste. I also like that you used four bolts per side to secure the faceplate rather than the three per side I have seen on the Torus branded AVR 20.

2. I installed the piece immediately upon receiving it and listened to it for a few days before deciding to plug the integrated amp and media player directly into the wall for comparison. I have a Wattgate audio grade outlet on a dedicated 20amp line. Prior to running straight from the wall outlet I had been listening to Patricia Barber, Café Blue, “Ode to Billy Joe.” I immediately noticed how less crisp the sound was, and how the delicate details of her voice were obscured in comparison. I then put the Panamax back into the system and listened to the same song, but the Panamax was only marginally better than just going straight to the wall. Then I put the AVR 20 back into the system and the clarity of the system was immediately and readily apparent. Its effect on the system is actually stunning.

3. I was at the stereo shop Saturday and told the guys that the BIT had arrived and was in the system. When asked how I liked it, I replied that I had not realized before that the sound of my system was muddy. It took them a moment to get their brains wrapped around what I had just said, one of them saying that he would never have described my system has sounding “muddy.” “Muddy” is an overstatement, but compared to the level of clarity that the system has with the AVR 20 it is as good a description as any – and it was the first word that came to mind.

4. The system is not choked at all and the bass may be slightly stronger than before. In fact, the system’s harmonic balance overall has been improved. As I mentioned, it is an awesome piece and has a permanent home in my system. Having heard it, there’s no going back. I’ve included some pictures of the BIT in the system.

Purchase a BIT AVR 20 through Audio Advisor recently and my comments are below.

By eliminating the ill effect of poor power on system noise and by providing high current reserves the AVR20 is permitting my system to realize its unfettered potential.

The system was already very good but with the installation of the AVR20 I was astounded to learn how much more it had to offer. The system has previously been described as bringing the musicians into the room. My first impression, however, at least with the small jazz ensemble music to which I have been listening during the first week of having the AVR20 in the system, is that with the improved clarity, finesse and authority that the system is now exhibiting I do not believe I could hear too much more of what the musicians were doing even if I were standing next to them.

Having heard the benefits of having the AVR20 in the system there is no going back. It has a permanent home.

I recently replaced a Panamax MR4300 with a BIT 15. OK, I think the BIT 15 is beyond amazing.

My reason for going to it was that I was concerned that the MR4300 was choking off the power supply to my Parasound A-21 Amp as well as other components in the system. I think that I can confidently say that there is in fact an improvement to the sound. I first came across the MR4300 or its predecessor about 20+ years ago. At the time, I was using an Adcom ACE-515 surge/power conditioner. It got great reviews but ever so often I would get a shock from it. So, I thought it was best to remove it and use another product. So, I went to my local audio store and picked up the MR-4300. I hooked it up and began to play some CDs. Darn it if I didn't immediately notice a difference in the sound. I am not that picky or acoustically trained to hear differences in sound but this time I did. The music coming from my AVR sounded under powered or muffled for want of a better term. So, I returned the MR 4300 and re-installed the ACE-515.

Now, jumping ahead to couple of years ago. I thought to myself that maybe the latest version of the MR-4300 would be better than the old one. Well, silly me, I don't think it was. I was also dreading having to spend over $2K for a power conditioner. I did my homework and all roads pointed towards Bryston BIT series. This think works wonders.

If anyone is in the market for a power conditioner/surge protector, by all means buy a BIT.
 
Bryston BIT

I recently replaced a “power regenerator” from a Colorado based manufacturer with the Bryston BIT. I liked the feature set on the “regenerator”- web enabled, the ability to control zones, and a nice LED display. I was disappointed when it failed after 5 years.

This failure ended up being a blessing in disguise. I have been aware of the BIT product for years and took this opportunity to upgrade from the regenerator to an isolation transformer based conditioner. My system is primarily Bryston- Model T’s, 14B, BDA-2, BDP-1. The 14B already has the BIT technology built in, so I use the BIT for the digital side and pre-amp.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the improvement surprised me, actually floored me! The most immediate improvement was the low end. The bass is noticeably deeper and better controlled with the image being more stable.

The Bryston BIT is the real deal, unlike other conditioners on the market.

Hi James... received the BIT-15 yesterday. Thanks for such prompt delivery.

Just installed it about an hour ago. Very impressive improvement - especially in regard to picture quality. But, sound quality also went up a few notches, as well.

Not sure about break in ... it sounds so good right out of the box. But, I'm sure there will be "some" further improvement with more time on the unit.

Will get back to you in more detail in about a week or so.

First impressions: the BIT-15 is a significant upgrade for any dedicated audiophile or videophile. Does an excellent job in all respects.

Will provide more reaction to the unit as time goes on.

My guess is that I just bought about the best power conditioner on the market.

Sure performs that way.
