Bryston BDA-3 Announced!

I took that upgrade path in a system. I had the Oppo 105D and connected it to the BDA-3. There was a distinct improvement. There was even more improvement when I added the BDP2 for my streamer. The biggest improvement was adding the Aurender n10 as my streamer to the BDA3 which was at the end before I sold it. the BDA3 is a fantastic DAC. The better signal you can feed it, the better it will sound.

Thanks a lot for the info shared! So what did you end up with?

I watch movies with my Oppo as well, so I have to keep it. If I add n10 maybe I can use that for all my audio needs and the oppo just for movies. So N10 and Oppo as transports have a lot of difference. Sad(for my bank account) to hear that...

I have the Aurender N10 feeding a Esoteric Grandioso K1. It's an entirely different performance level, but at an extremely high cost. The BDA3 is a fantastic DAC and preforms far above its cost.

Love this DAC. Connected HDMI (Audio Only) to it from an Oppo UDP-205. SACD bitstreams DSD straight to the BDA-3.

It even converts DTS-HD to Stereo for movies

Hi James;

Just wanted to update you on how happy I am with the BDA3.

The DAC has many great qualities that enhance listening enjoyment, many of which have been discussed in reviews. It also easily reveals the natural dynamics in good recordings, and by dynamics I'm thinking of both micro dynamics and overall dynamic range.

Dynamic range makes for good demos, but micro dynamics makes for a more believable musical experience, and brings the listening experience closer to "live", in my opinion.

I'm very much starting to believe that this "dynamic transparency" is typical of recent generations of Bryston gear . . . maybe even a hallmark . . .

Cheers

I couldn't wait and I pulled the plug! Ordered the BDA-3 dac in black. Hopefully I will have it before the end of the week and start enjoying it on my weekend. I will connect my Oppo 105d via hdmi.

I started with that set up as well. Your next step, which will create a dramatic improvement, is to replace the Oppo with a BDP-3 or one of the Aurender players. That was a jaw dropping addition to my BDA3, when I still had it.

You're going to love it. It's a hell of a DAC and performs WAY above its price point.

First impressions are better that I expected. There is a noticeable difference in sound. More detail but less harshness (the harshness that I did not know was there) Instruments sounds more natural. The bass is more tuneful. Another good thing is it was very easy to setup. Plugged the hdmi 2 out to the first hdmi input of Bryston. A few adjustments in oppo settings and it worked flawlessly locking into whatever I feed into it, be it dsd or pcm. I think it will only get better with time.

Hi Folks,

Apparently we got a great review on the Bryston BDA-3 DAC in the latest electronic issue of UHF Magazine (I know they purchase one for their reference system).

I will try and get a link or a reprint.

Until I get a new rack, it has found its place :) Both dac and transport are powered via shunyata alpha hc ic's. Bryston is connected via special made ultra low capacitance Grover Huffman ic's to my passive pre which sends the signals to my set and ss monoblocks vi balanced cables. So far so good and is getting a little better everyday :) I want to add one more thing, it works great for movie sound.

Oppo 105d --hdmi--> Bryston BDA-3 --rca--passive pre-->lm503&avm 3.2--->horns

Put together a playlist and just let it play for a couple hundred hours. It’ll really sound good after that

I was away on a trip for two days. Yesterday night I was back and I wanted to listen through the bda-3. I had a weird problem, it looses the signal (can not lock) somehow for a few minutes and then returns to normal. This is through hdmi connection. Is there a firmware update or something that I should know of, I read something like that on some forums.

HI kodomo

I do not think there is any new software but email Mike at Bryston to make sure - [email protected]

it keeps loosing signal somehow and can not be listened as of now... I am mailing Mike, thanks

Just to update. I don't know why but the problem seems to be on hdmi 1 input of my unit. When I connected to hdmi 2 input, it started working as its supposed to do. I have written Mike about it, waiting to hear from him.
