I also got a 4B3 and a BDA-3. Need to crack those open.

OMG MIKE !!! I need to make a trip down this summer. Maybe after you get the Vitus in. These, the Pass, and the Vitus all available for demo with my Magico. Must come down

I did not like the new looks at first but now, think they look awesome.

Mike, how would you describe the sound of the 4B3s with the Magicos, and what preamp(s) have you been using with it?

The 4B is sweet sounding. Rich. Right out of the box.

That is a very nice looking system. All great gear.

Question:

What do you get by having the speakers so far away from the back wall? Doesn't the bass suffer?

If I did that they would be in the middle of my living room. LOL.

It's not always possible or practical, but if you can do it, I find moving the speakers out into the room provides:

- better presence
- much better, tighter, more defined and balanced bass
- better space coherence
- little to no smearing of frequencies
- proper phase
- a more realistic presentation (some say depth of sound stage, 3D, etc.)
- etc.

But again, I understand it's not always possible or practical.

Hi Catmony

Can you tell me what you mean by the BDA-1 quit? I am sure we can repair it fpr you and so far we have had zero issues with our DAC's.

You can email me at [email protected]

Hi James. My unit stopped working. The buttons would not respond and that include the on/off switch. I already sent my unit twice. The last time around, it stayed with Bryston for around 3 weeks since the problem I had at home was not reproduced. To cut the story short, the problem was replicated and the technicians ended up replacing the entire inside and only the external casing remained.

Unit arrived at home and tested. Worked flawlessly. After a month of being idle, the problem persisted when I fired it up. I decided not to call Mike P since I thought I dont want to send it for the 3rd time and perhaps it is time to update to the BDA3. Probably this is an isolated case. My BDA1 problem is documented by Bryston since I believe this is a unique problem encountered by for the first time. I am also a BDP1 owner.

I thought of going to another brand when fund allows. But Mike said, it is CRAZY GOOD!
