Bricasti M3 Stereo D/A Converter

Hello
Has anyone had a chance to checkout the Bricasti M3? Looking for a network streamer/DAC and I have this one on my list along with the Simaudio 390, Lumin T2 and Ayre EX-8.

I have the Bricasti M1se and after finding the right filter, it’s awesome. It’s an amazing performer.

Hi Joe - Would be curious to know which filter setting you prefer on the Bricasti if you'd care to share it with us. TIA and good listening!
 
It is nice that the M1 comes with 15 different filter options. The M3 only has two - linear and minimum phase.
 
I don’t have the Ethernet input on mine yet. They were talking about adding MQA but at the time I inquired, it wasn’t available. I’m feeling it via my Lumin U1mini and a modified Sonos.

I had been using one of the Linear filters but settled on Minimum 0 and Minimum 1. I’ve never been able to get an adequate description of what is different between filters.

Coming out of the Lumin and Bricasti are Belden 8402. My spdif rca is a Shunyata. My USB from my Lumin is an Audience.

I recall reading that Brian Zolner of Bricasti prefers Minimum 0 and Minimum 1 as his top two filter choices... selection can come down to user preference and best system matching.
 
When I was using the Linear filters, I had the Studio2 and JBL 4367. Since getting my Avantgarde Duo, the Minimum filters seem a little softer/sweeter.

You have good ears my friend... while linear filters are perceived as technically better by some the minimum phase filters seem to be more natural sounding on most systems. With your AG speakers being of the ultra-revealing nature I'm not surprised that you'd prefer minimum phase filters. FYI Ayre uses MP filters in their digital gear, Charles Hansen was a big proponent of their sonic performance.
 
Received my M3 at the beginning of July. This is a fabulous DAC and sounds great. I listen to a lot of rock and it this the first one since my Theta Gen VIII that has done this genre right. Roon implementation is rock solid. I have not had any hiccups with any sample rates. I wish other manufactures did as good a job as Bricasti with the polish they put on their products. I have been through too many Roon Ready network players and tested devices that were just full of bugs. This is a first rate product all the way.
 
I use a Bricasti M12 as the heart of my system. I usually stream via a Roon server on a NAS. I have the NAS re-sample everything to DSD128, both to avoid the resolution change clicking, and because I love that D to A board.

The DAC was a nice jump up from a nice Bryston DAC. Costly, but end game for me.

Because of the pre-amp functions, I also use a turntable and phono pre, analog in from my cable box, and digital coax from the BluRay player.
 
New M3 in the house. Easily and quickly set up as my preamp with the network input (While it is working as a ROON endpoint, it shows as “uncertified” by ROON)


Sounds great out of the box. Lots of detail in the music. I will let it run for the week and see how it may change.


It is a small unit. Lots of room in my rack now.

Grats - it will take awhile to re-listen to all your music.

This reminds me of the quote by famed motorcycle Grand Prix rider, Kenny Roberts: "The only thing wrong with 1000-way adjustable suspension is there are...999 wrong settings and still only 1 right one."
