Sure
I've only had the Border Patrol for 2 days now and only had one day of serious auditioning.
The 1st day i listened to it cold right out of the box and was not pleased. The sound was a bit too rounded and bass lacked definition. Really distracting. I was ready to resell it that day
After leaving it on for 24 hours, all that changed. Bass became tighter with better definition.
Quite a dramatic transformation. I've listened to gear cold but never heard such a drastic transformation after warm up..
The Yaggy presentation is clearer, tighter bass response and blacker background. Notes just pop at of the darkness with superb imaging. This DAC can be brutal on poor recordings exposing every blemish. I really like this DAC. It replaced a Lampi Gen 4 Level 4.
Began reading how the Border Patrol's sound was close to analog but not quite peaked my interest. Steve Guttenberg, I like this guy, did a nice video review and actually bought one. If it's good enough for Steve...
The internet reviews of the Border Patrol are pretty much spot on.. Again, I've only had one day to listen. It's definitely a warmer sounding DAC due to its tube rectification but not boring. Not as transparent, or imaging and soundstaging producing as the yaggy. What it does give is a lively, toe tapping experience.
They really are on opposite ends of the digital spectrum. I could live with both and I may just do that
Oh, Border Patrol offers a 14 day home trial. I'm sure they would even extend it if you asked.
You can also pick up a used one like I did to compare for yourself. You shouldn't have any problem reselling either the Yaggy or the BP
For reference purposes, my system consists of:
Linear Tube Audio MT2 preamp
Exclusively streaming Tidal via Bluesound Node 2.
Sold my PS Audio Perfectwave Transport recently and never looking back.
Quicksilver 300B monoblocks
Full loom of Triode Wire Labs cables and powercords
Frankenhorns. My creation.
Picture the top half of Volti Audio Vittora horn with BMS and Beyma drivers on top of a bass cabinet with 15 inch woofer.
